Here is a step by step photo guide to a snorkel installation onto my 1983 BJ60.

I thought I'd share incase anyone needed a reference upon installation.

This is what you'll need for the job:
• Roll of masking tape
• 95mm = 3 3/4" holesaw

• All the equipment that comes with your snorkel in the box

• Rivet gun
• Various sized drill bit (I cannot remember which ones I used)
• Drill
• Screwdriver
• Small file
• Touch up paint

• Here's the vehicle at the start

• Throw some tape on where you will be drilling

• Tape on the template which comes with your snorkel

• Now trace out the holes from the template using any marking device (pen/pencil)

• Drill your pilot holes

• Followed by drilling the actual holes

• Now take your 95mm = 3 3/4" holesaw and slowly cut out the marked circle on your fender, don't be scared, it'll be well worth it in the end

• Go all the way through!

• At this point, you've just cut a massive hole out of your front fender, you may go to the corner and have a whimper. Now if at this point you feel that you are in need of a man-hug, you're on you own, I cannot help you.

• Remove tape and clean up any burrs left behind from drilling using a small file, I found a nail file worked quite well.

• Paint bare metal to reduce any chance of rust

Now, to work on the Snorkel part:
• Insert the studs into the specified holes (4 in total)

• Dry fit the metal elbow from your kit, then on the inside of the elbow provide a seal of silicon and attach to the snorkel

Continued...

• Drill 3 anchor points along base of mounted elbow and prepare for rivets

• Install the 3 rivets which come with the kit

• Mark and drill the mounting plate holes on your 'A' pillar (I used self tapping stainless steel screws instead of using the inserts which came with the kit, just my personal preference)

*Please note, any comments made regarding my sloppy (yet hidden once the snorkel was installed) silicon job along the side of my windsheild, will result in me coming to your house and pooping in your toilet tank.

After this point, I stopped taking photos as it is just a matter of the rubber corrugated hose from the kit and using the provided hose clamps, attaching and feeding through from the snorkel to the factory airbox, I will be taking more photos as soon as I can find my battery charger for my camera.

• Here is the final snorkel on my 1983 BJ60

A big Thank you to Paul "Beast" on this board, for helping me get this done.

Thanks for the nice write up! What type of antenna do you have and how is it working out over the stock?

Hi Archie,
I have no idea which antenna I have, its an after-market jobbie, short and flexible, I bought it years ago, works fine, I've never had any problems as the previous owner sold the vehicle with a broken factory antenna.

Cool.

How'd it feel to cut that hole in the fender?

Nice write up. Thanks.

Hi dude .. nice write up .. ! and congrats for your new goodye !

When I do mine I only make a outside hole .. in the fender ..

how is the inside plumbed?

That's my question as well...what kind of "chambering" does it use to keep stuff out of your intake? (ie:rain, snow, debris)?
Just curious!
