I came across these at a truck parts store and they were a pretty simple swap in. They are 12 volt, super bright - way more effective than the factory lights.

How much did they cost?
Did you have to drill anything?
Do you have a part number?

Those things are burning my eyes! Nice!

I believe they were around $12 CDN each and the reason I got excited was they matched the factory holes (no drilling).

I have no stinking part numbers but try looking in a truck supply store or a truck stop, because they're 12 volt, they'll be a common item, a 24 volt version is also available but need to be ordered.

They are available in AMBER as well as RED

Scroll down to the M1-R12 AND M1-A12. Wife has the cruiser so I couldn't measure my OEM markers - Are they close to 3.75 x 1.2 inches??

Rig - Can you tell us if your's are 3.75 x 1.2 inches?

Those are them! of course I opted to pass on the chrome base, I went with the black rubber base.

They are a sealed unit, which is nice.

LEDs rule!

Another option - i bought new OEM lights and replaced the bulbs with LEDs. Stock look w/o heat or wearing out! I think i got them from superbrightleds as well.

I replaced my brake lights, corner markers (amber and red), front driving lights (white), license plate light, and all my guage bulbs with LEDs.

I will see if i can attach a pic of the ones i used. I took pics for a write up i was going to do, but still haven't finished the guage install...

I just took one of those typical work lights you would see on a tractor trailer or tow truck, gutted the light out and used the rubber cup and mounting hardware.

Although the LED light is a completely sealed unit, this acts as a (shock-proof/extra protection) mounting unit.

I like those round brake lights! Anything to make it more obvious i am BRAKING!

also, I did not swap any blinkers due to the draw being diff and they blink faster. Only way to fix that is add resistance or put in new flasher unit. I like the warning i have burnt a bulb with the blinker going 2x faster.

I went out to my 89LC and took the two front amber lights off. The rubber grommet had totally rotted out and the wiring had fallen into the engine bay. The wiring has one green/white and one black/white wire connecting to the lamp.

The two back red lights work and the grommet is in OK condition.

It appears that 'Rig of Mortis' used the snap in style M2-A12 and M2-R12 and not the type that uses screws M1-R12 and M1-A12.

So before I order these things can someone give some advice.
Do I need new rubber grommets or do I need to purchase the black rubber base that 'Rig of Mortis' uses.

BTW the black rubber base seems to be used for M2-A12 and M2-R12 (snap in style). The website http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi?product=TRUCK does not stock the black rubber base :(

Any input greatly appreciated!

Nice clean upgrade...cool!!

anyone tried this yet?

From the following URL re flashers & converting automotive to LED's:

Turn signal issues with LED bulbs
LED brake/tail lamps will not flash with thermal flasher units due to their extremely low current draw. These installations will require an electronic flasher unit, available in our car bulb shopping category (for some vehicles) or at your auto parts store. Try to find flashers designed to work with LED bulbs, they will say "LED compatible". Often HEAVY DUTY flashers will also work with LED bulbs.

good info srplus. It was more hassle than it was worth to replace flasher unit, so kept regular bulbs in all my turn signals. Like i said - i like the warning i have a bulb out when it blinks faster. easy to tell and easy to fix.

LoOkInG for LEDs?

I found this site and got a lot of stuff for my street bike. Not only that if you have a good suggestion and its workable, they'll make it.
I asked him if he could make these and he announced them in his next news letter!

<edit> srplus, not trying to steal your business, just another good company that I've worked with.

Thanks alot for the advice. My side marker lights are falling apart (rubber rot) and got a qoute from the dealer for 35 bucks a piece( housing and lense).

You are not hijacking my thread (you are just hijacking my hijack)... That is a nice product you have cited and also a very NICE (translate - High) price. Since I am in the sign business I have easy access to LED's and use them all the time in Channel Letters for signs instead of neon sometimes and have a bunch of different types of LED's laying around. I have lit up entire strings of letters for less than two of those units would cost (including the price for a step down transformer).

My question has to do specifically with using a different kind of flasher - other than a solid state one specifically designed to flash LED's (that are usually fairly expensive). If a low resistance LED flasher is used than that would require any turn lights on any trailer also be converted to LED's to function correctly on the LED flasher.

The URL I posted stated that some heavy duty flashers will properly work with LED lights.

What I would like to know is:

1] Has anyone tried driving LED signal lights with a heavy duty flasher and what is their experience with if they have done it?
2] Since several of our posters already have the LED brake light conversions and the socket is the same for the brake and turn signal bulbs - AND - the heavy duty flashers are pretty cheap and some ppl already have them installed for their trailer usage... has anyone put an LED into the turn signal socket with the heavy duty flasher and tried to see what would happen?
3] If not, is there anyone in this situation that would like to try it... even if they had to buy a standard heavy duty flasher to do it, if they do not own one already?

I might spring for a HD flasher (for myself and maybe even the wizard that tried to do this) and then the LED's if i had confirmation that this actually worked.

Speaking of HD flashers, where do I get one that would work with my 60? I haven't seen any flashers that use the same base as the green thing that's in there now...

Ahhhhhh I ordered the ones w/ screws!! and they shipped already... dang it!
