I am currently restoring the body on my '78 40 and saw these guys advertising here on MUD:

http://www.jishardware.com/HOME.html

I was thinking about ordering the Yellow Zinc Plated ($199) kit. Not sure if Gold Cadmium Plated is worth an additional $100? (maybe if it were real gold, not cadmium... :D )

Does anyone have any experience and/or feedback about this kit?

TIA,

I have a lot of stuff plated and their is no price difference between "clear and yellow" zinc. ( Metco Plating refers to the silver colored zinc as "clear" )
You'll still need other fasteners like phillips oval head countersunk for the windshield and interior

I bought two kits. My only complaint is that I have way too many BIG bolts and not enough small ones. I've been replacing almost everything I touch as I go, Good quality.

X2 on not enough small bolts and I would add that there aren't enough nuts, and washers either. I bought one cadmium kit. a little pricey too. There is a great shop in Denver that can get you JIS stuff. They are called AAA metric. 1st and Lipan street I believe. Really helpful guys. Take them the list of what you want. I would then take it and have it plated on your own. The plating place I used charges a 70.00 minimum, but they will do almost a 5 gallon bucket for that. I have heard of guys raiding the junkyard for metric bolts off of Toyota's then getting them plated by the bucket full. Just depends on how much effort you want to put into it.

Best money that I have spent on my rebuild...I bought the yellow zinc kit, then I took all of my used bolts and had them replated. I bought 2 hardware organizers and put the old hardware in one and the new hardware in the other. There are some things that the new hardware will not cover....so far between the two, I have had plenty of hardware.

I'm still working on my 77'' frame off and I'm almost ready to stat assembly. I'm interested in finding those phillips oval head counter sunk fasteners,as well as the kit nuts and bolts. Hope someone has some info.. Thanks for any help Greg

McMaster.com has the countersunk JIS head screws , even in ss . Make sure to ask the sales person for Brikksen hardware , it's top quality and the prices per bag aren't bad as they 18-8 ss instead of the cheaper 304 .

thanks sarge. i did not see the panhead counter sunk available, only the flat head. if i call will they have them?

Post up a pic of what you're looking for , I can find nearly anything in the world of hardware....
Sarge

here are a few pics of the oem screws. as you can see, i guess they are not a true panhead, but they are not flat either. the screws original to the hood hinges are the same way, only smaller. one of the PO buggered up the heads on multiple screws so i would like to replace them all, but i do not like the look of the flathead screw.

if you can find these i would be greatly appreciative. i am looking, but no success as of now.
