I received some misc. parts from a friend and one of them was a solenoid. I was going to install it on a tractor but during my testing found out that is wasn't just a regular solenoid. If you pulse the activation contacts the solenoid opens/closes and stays that way. It latches On with one pulse and OFF with the next. You can remove power and it stays in whatever state it's in. Not a good starter solenoid but good for other things. It will carry 110 Amps. I can see this as a good inline for anti-theft or battery isolation on a 2 battery system. With this inline with the battery you could have a semi hidden push button power on, power off of the rig. Also it looks like a regular solenoid so it really doesn't look out of place.;) It is a Cole Hersee PN# 24200. A little expensive but I found some cheaper on web searches.

Thought I would bump this. I had an idea, there are so many posts about a bad connection between engine and frame I was thinking.... If you remove the frame to engine ground cable and replace it with a cable and this solenoid in series.... So a thief comes along and wants to steal your rig, they run a hot wire to the dizzy and to the starter solenoid. The starter won't turn over unless the frame/engine ground is connected. You can put this ground connection anywhere hidden.

latching relay

A latching relay on the neg side of the coil or on an elec fuel pump would be cheaper if you are just looking to fool the hotwire guy.

for pursuit, I think my dog could keep up with my 40, but he would only bug the thief to take his frisbee!
