Is there anyone that has a mid 73 FJ40 that woudl mind taking a picture of how the throttle linkage is hooked up to the carburator?
I am putting parts together to restore the PO's Holley conversion back to orignal Aisin and am unsure how/where the throttle cable bracket mounted and then how it hooked to the butterfly.

I do tihnk I have all the parts needed just could really benifit from a pic.

Thanks in advance Guys

Thanks,

I ahve looked at them and felt i woudl benifit from some actual pictures. while the SOR diagrams are good three are some inaccuracies. The exploded views dont show where things like the cable brackt mounts etc.

I will go relook at them however thanks !

Your request will also need to be refined. There are actually THREE different setups for '73. One for Jan-Feb, one for Feb-August, and another from Sept-Dec.

No wonder I am finding this a bit difficult, I have a June of 73 FJ40. and none of the pictures in SOR or their exploded likage views seem just right. (its possible im reading somethign wrong)

I was able to find the right accelerator pedal set up and throttle cable from Classic Cruisers in Salida, and they also gave me some of the brackets and carburator attachments now putting it all together is the challenge.

Thanks for the tip!

I have a Sept. '72 production date. Here are some pics of my weird stock linkage. Bracket ataches to carb base on the drivers side, and uses a cam to convert the cable from the pedal to a rod-linkage on the carb. Lots more pics if this is what you're looking for.

Here's Info From SOR...

Top Picture: For 9/74 "bracketry", item 55 in the top picture is slightly different, but the linkage setup is pretty much the same. The #55 bracket goes onto the top of the carb base, and is held on by two bolts (maybe studs and nuts) that go through to the manifold.

The torque rod (Item 51) just plugs into the holes (there is a nylon bushing on the carb side, and a rubber grommet on the firewall side) on the two brackets (#55 carb side and the bracket shown in the lower picture - firewall side). The only thing retaining the torque rod is a cotter pin on the carburetor side.

Picture #60 (lower) shows the firewall mount. The grommet (61) goes into the hole in the top of the bracket for the torque rod. The linkage you have (#53 in the top picture) is too long, and has to be shortened. Your link is from an FJ-60.

Good Luck

Chuck thanks for the reply, the accelerator is totally different and has no hole with a boot through the firewall for a linkage such as pictured in the SOR diagram. turns out that a June of 73 Model was cable linkage and the mechanical conversion for cable to butterfly control is different. Thanks for the input I'll send you a pic so you see what I'm talking about if you want.

Maui, your set up is very similar but still isn't quite right I don't think. the picture of the spring that you sent is for the butterfly return? I would be interested in more pictures if you have them.

Thanks everyone for the input thus far.
