anyone ever sandblast the whole outside body of a 40 series before? curious on a time frame ?....

With the help of the search function you will find several vehicles that have been fully blasted. It is typically not a good idea but the cruisers (pending the year) are very thick metal making for a better canvas for sandblasting (less warpage) As for time frame what are you asking? If you are using a small harbor freight blaster with a small compressor then the answer is forever and ever. If you are asking how long it would take to pay a commercial blaster they did my tub and a few other parts in about two hours and I paid around 300 if I remember right. That included under neath the tub

Edit: I thought I should add that using my cheap harbor freight blaster at a friends saw mill that has a huge compressor and filtering the sand properly it wouldnt be that bad either.....

Sandblast at an angle not dead-on,less heat and warpage. Aircraft stripper works well with less warpage. Mike

thanx for the replies, a local equipment rental business in town has a area outback in their yard where you can use their sandblasting unit already set-up, just more less have too buy the sand.....thanx...

what you mean "strip it" remove all parts and glass, or strip the whole thing to bare metal with the blaster....

He probably means remove all the parts and glass etc ,You,ll have to or forever be dealing with sand every where,It doesnt matter how well you cover it .You may want to consider the aircraft striper for the major areas and blast the corners.Personally I,ve striped the whole rig, does a much better job cause most of the rust is where you cant see.

I've blasted many parts and trucks. The bending, warping kind of sandblasting is that done by commercial units. My sandblaster (harbor freight large pressure blaster) combined with my 7.5HP compressor on 220 won't bend em, just gets it down to bare metal. There are many types of media you might want to try to give the desired end result.

Times 2 on the different types of media........ I dont know the correct answer off the top of my head though you will have to search.

i got by tub and frame done by an industrial sandblaster no warping, used regular silica sand, no soda blasting or walnut shells, didnt do doors, fenders or hood but did do tub/firewall one piece took 3 hrs, frame and axles 2 hrs. 130 hr sandblast shop rate. looked and turned out great! god do i hate rust lol get this the rockers are school crossing signs cut to cover the original rusty rockers, riveted then painted! unreal.
