Junk.

Send it to me.

There is a correlation between that switch and the threaded hole just to the lower right of the windshield frame bracket on the tub....

1. Looks like an older "cabin" light switch.
2. Looks like the ultra-rare pumpkin orange paint color.
3. Never heard of that switch being over there. Factory soft top?

check the vin plate on the fender or firewall. I think FJ40LV is hardtop, and FJ40V is softtop, thought is been a while since I looked that stuff up. either way, look at the model and post up.

Could be that the pumpkin orange colored cruisers were spec'ed out for non-us markets since they seem to be rare, and might have been to help out a surge in the market for cruisers at the time. i have seen those switches and an accompanying cabin light on FST cruisers...

That would be the soft top courtesy light switch. I had one on my '73 hard top. I spent a long time trying to figure it out... then I found the corresponding light for it. It's expensive but I think worth it...

I've got a dash off of a 73 hard top that also had the holes for the light and switch. These lights were standard on all earlier models (until 65-67?) even the FJ45s. They mount to the bottom of the dash by the hand brake lever. Both my 1965 FJ45s had the mounting hole but no lights. To tell if this orange one is a soft top model we need to see more of the upper right corner of that picture to see if there is the threaded hole for the safety strap eyebolt.

My November 73 factory soft top doesn't have that

Interesting thing is it does look a FST. It has the footman loops around the rear and a couple other tell tale signs. I wonder if it is in fact a FST and somone later matched the hardtop and doors to factory pumpkin or most likely Toyota slapped a hardtop on it the last minute and rerouted it and a few other pumpkin trucks to the US. I guess we'll never know. :D

Footman loops were on FJ40s 72/73/74 both hard and soft top. I've pulled them from ones in junk yards that were hard tops from those years. The picture of the blue one above is a hard top and not orange but you can see it doesn't have the threaded hole for the eyebolt. Just the hole in the outer skin like other hard tops. My dash from a 73 hard top is blue also, my orange 73 has the light but it is a soft top model. I just think Toyota did some strange things during those years.

My stock 73 has that light switch and it turns on the dome light above the driver and it is not a factor soft top.

That light is pretty hard to find. I have the switch also, but no light.

Jeremy

Yeah, I got lucky and found it on Ebay... paid through the nose for it though.

Yes, mine is a hard top. It has (or had) footman loops also. I just couldn't stand having an unused hole in the dash. Funny thing is that most people (even at TLC and SOR) don;t have a clue about this light.

Switch for the power top???

What did you call me?

Oh...DASH hole!

Nevermind...:D
