help axle

hi everybody

i have a few questions here

i had gone with the h55f swap and have found that my cheapest e brake option would be a late style ebrake axle.

so my question is where do i find these axles. evidently they are hard to come by and
any help would be great. out here in the bay area labor is expensive and im running out of cash so maybe the eldorado calipers are out of the question for now. i want to keep things simple.

again any help or leads on these axles would be great

Howdy! If you swap axles, then you may have to go thru the diff, do axle seals and bearings, and also a brake job, and hopefully the drums aren't warpped. Is that really any cheaper than going with the Eldorado setup? I' am getting close to doing this myself. I have the brackets, but I have not gathered up the rotors and calipers yet. John

You could always do a simple disc brake conversion and just use the Eldorado calipers, they have the e-brake provisions.

yea i agree but i did some research on the eldorado and it looks like they are a bitch to get adjusted and mine is going to be a daily driver. i just can't throw down that kind of cash and never get them adjusted right. whats the point of even paying money for them if they won't work properly?

another thing that I have to think of is i dont have the booster or master setup . i have a 1970 fj with mini trick front disc already. labor around here is 100 plus an hour. its just crazy.

SOR shows the housings. I cannot imagine that Marv does not have a complete set up, minus axle shafts and diff, as you will not need them and can use your earlier axle shafts in the later housing.


Call MAF as well. Al may have something.

yea i will check them out. im not looking to rebuild an axle but if thats what i have to do it still might be cheaper than the eldorado setup

yes i posted also in the wanted section. because i didn't clarify i was not looking for the fj60 axles i got a good on a guy that wanted to sell me that set up . he was awsome its just not the setup i was looking for

Then there is no reason why you cannot remove the residual pressure valve from the rear circuit of the master cylinder you currently have and install the GM calipers....

i thought you had to have a more powerful setup though. don't most people upgrade their booster and master . thats what ive heard anyway. thats why i wasn't sure about that.

Eldo calipers are not a pain to adjust. They are automatically adjusting.

You are much more likely to need to adjust the brakes on a Land Cruiser drum.

Provided the parking brake and other components function properly, using the parking brake in the later trucks will keep the rear shoes adjusted well.
