Whats the best rear sill to replace the area rusted beneath back doors in a 78 fj40? Do you need 14 or 16 gauge?

Thanks

Go to search, type in "rear sill" about 250 or so posts on this subject. I found this thread very informative, and it has plenty of great ideas.

These (Pakistan repros) would be available, reasonable price, in the US soon.

I Sent You A Pm. Iv Got The Rear Sill From Cool Cruisers And Am Not Using It If You Want To Buy It From Me. It Is Brand New Let Me Know

One quick comment on the rear sills. I bought one off ebay for around $50. It was nice heavy gauge steel. I didn't like it though because there was no center recess for the door striker (amb doors). I just looked at the CCOT site and it looks like their's has the recess ('75 and later). It's a little more money, but I ended up not using the ebay one because of that.
Cheers.

16 gauge should be fine. I made mine with 16g, and reused the U supports from my old one. I had to make it in a few pieces and weld together, because that's what I had left over and my brake was not long enough to do the whole width.

Here it is with out the ends, and salvged U supports.set in.

For the end corners, I had some matieral left over from replacing the corner outer panels.

On salvaging the U supports, I found that after I cut them out, to get the old channel off, it was best to place in the vice grip, and grab the remaining metal with vice grips and twist N pull.

Make one out of two inch square tube and a flat 2 inch piece of 1/4 inch steel, weld it up very strong and nice, Larry
