Well my 55 gas tank that I took out had a nipple for the gas feed line. The new tank that came out of an earlier model has threads . I'm assuming these threads are similar to what came in early fj40 tanks.

What have people done to convert from the screw type connection to a nipple?

I don't want to brase in a new nipple as it would screw up the lining and the nice paint on the outside.

Maybe a good foreign car parts store would have the nipple that would screw on the threaded male end. Another option might be getting the fitting from an old hose that fits the tank and having a hose supply company re-use the fitting to make a new one. I am still using the original :frown: , so I will watch this thread closely. I would like to replace my fuel line too.

Isn't that thread a pipe size? Seems like the 40 one is and if so there'd be a fiiting in a good hardware store to fit. A converter from pipe to hose nipple.

Trollhole,
I went through this same problem, the thread on that fitting is a BRITISH WHITWORTH THREAD. It is very difficult to find anyone who still has the fittings for this particular line. I had contacted Mark at Mark's Offroad and he had one made up for me.

It was expensive - like around 50 bucks. NO OTHER THREADING will work properly, it also must be for a flare type connection specific to that style of connection,--- that no seems to utilize.

I choose to cowboy up and pay Mark to have one made as after countless phone calls and hours upon hours or internet research I threw in the towel.
There may be others out there in your area that can help you, but I had been to numerous hydrualic and pnematic companies, that specialize in fittings and they all looked at me like I was sometype of fool.

I've tried many places and people, if you find another source please let us all know! Good Luck, Ken

Ahhh haaaa! Thanks Steve (poser)

Found a solution.
It's real close to 1/4 NPT I mean very close but will not work.

This is 1/4 npt for an air hose you can see it's just slightly off.

I started thinking. The fittings on a stock Asin carb fuel inlet and outlet looked like the might fit. And sure enough I had one I had saved ( save everything).

I've tried it, it didn't work. The connection will probably not fit tightly over the nipple as the fitting is too long and will bottom out before it compresses the flange. If you gring down the fitting your might be able to get it to work. It is the proper thread size and pitch.

Keep in mind this is your fuel line. I needed it to be perfect because it's sitting right next to me inside the truck. Hence the trouble I went to for a good quality replacement.

Trust me when I tell you it's a British thread. I know what I'm talking about, not that I'm and all knowing, but have been there from trial and error. I hope you can grind down the fitting and get it to work.

It is on a 55...the fuel tank is in the rear of the truck...

I cannot see why you had a problem if you used the same pieces that Troll used....I have done this on a couple trucks, including mine to replace the broken plastic old style fuel line, when I was running the 18 gallon early tank, and it worked just fine.

Trollhole,
Yeah I noticed that after my post, your threading nipple was a bit longer than the one I have on my FJ-40, I ground the fuel pipe down to the flare and the coupler did fit bu would bottom out quickly. I'm glad it worked out for your application sure wish it would have worked for me. Waiting on that fuel line cost me weeks of time I couldn't work on the engine and tune. Oh well, that's the way it goes sometimes.
