It seems there is a knocking when the transmission engages. I thought it was when it shifted from first to second...so to test that I put the transmission into 'start 2nd' With the 2nd start button. Still did it. Therefore I assume it is not between the 1nd and 2nd gear.

It is a loud CLUNK as I start moving. It happens about 50% of the time when upshifting. When slowing down (downshifting) it happens about 25% of the time.

I remember reading some threads a while ago about the GX470 having issues like this. Lexus seemed to fix it after one time in the shop. I don't know what they replaced. Anyone have any insight?

Driveline clunk?

OK, now it's official, it's a real Land Cruiser.

Could be...it is not under the front row seat area...more like the 2nd row

What do you want for 70,000+ clams ;).

Ok lets try to be productive here.

I have been reading the threads on the driveline clunk. Is it possible to have this issue with 1300 miles on it?

What would be the best way to determine that this IS the issue?

I don't have a clue how to check the drivetrain and almost certain that taking it apart to check would void some warranty. Any help with any of this?

Being a new vehicle no one here can tell you.

Taking it to the dealer.

You are going to take it to the dealer, right?

Please don't take it as me being a smartass....no one here has any experience with your truck. The last thing you'd want to do is trust your 70k LC to a bunch of internet experts.

So what are you saying? Take it to the dealer? ;)

I was just wondering if this is a recurring LC issue, which it seems to be.

Could it be the 'learning ' transmission. some new cars will adapt to a driving style.
For example, it could hold a gear a little longer or upshift too quick.

This can cause problems if you drive inherently different than your spouse. You can be driving and slowing to a stop and the transmission shudders.

Everyone is doing this now.

Its your driveshaft slip yoke. All Toyota trucks are like that. It's a Toyota thing :)

Seriously? It sounds pretty nasty

Ask shotts, he'll know what it is !!

Ok now...lets not start ;p

That sounds more like the ECT PWR function. I have never heard of a transmission like that.

Plus I am the only driver.

Damn, that was fast! I'd be inclined to agree with others on here about the driveline shunt, but I have to say, our 100 Series has 40K miles and no thunk yet to speak of. Certainly nothing like our two previous 80 Series trucks.

Err... Take it to the dealer...

take it to the dealer period. ive had two 100s first to 100k, im on my second which is at 98k and never heard any thunk. def not a normal thing. your funked dude. lol

take it to th dealership let us know how it turns out but i would be real surprised if it was the drive shaft toyota did not learn its lesson from the gx?????????????????? they tried to save weight back then i think 03 or 04 when they came out the 100 seris has a differnet one the reason why i they did not learn their lesson is many on a lexus site tried to pool together a do a class action thng for a lemon law not sure how it panned out let us know

oh i forgot to say the drive line clunk happens when you stop not start up so it probably not that

Actually, my 100 made a very similar sound but I like to describe it as if something binded up in the tranny. That was when I took it in to the stealership and my tranny had to be replaced. This happened back in June or July, so it is still pretty fresh in my mind. Does the 200 have the overdrive button on the shifter? When I turned OD off it stopped making any noises..Try that if you will.

Oh, have I ever mentioned that I really do not like to buy a car in its first (or 2nd) year of production? I did a few times and hopefully have learned my lesson.... ;)

If it feels like thump when you hear it, it is most likely the rear driveshaft slip yoke binding.

Try going 10-15 MPH and stop very hard and come to a standstill. Then take off slowly adn see if it still does the same thing. The current 4Runner adn Lexus GX seem to have this issue as well.

Normally it goes away after you lube the yoke and do a few more miles. On the GX they issued a TSB that required replacement of the rear driveshaft and rear axle control arms. Toyota as usual did nothing and told dealers to deaf and dumb.

I woudl say have the dealer lube the yoke or just do it yourself. Then give it a workout by going over some bumpy stuff. Make sure not to overfill the yoke with grease, rather give it 3-4 pumps, then go test it out over bumpy stuff. If it is still there after a week just repeat. It should get less and then disappear, but keep it lubed at least every 10K miles and it would be fine.

In the mean time you might want to take it to the dealer as well, as some Tundras had transmission issues. Good to get things on record.

Anyway just my 2c.
