After searching old threads to no avail, I am reaching out to the MUD community for assistance.

I just noticed the other day that my fog lamps/lights don't work anymore, even though they were fine before. I thought it was weird that they would both burn out simultaneously, but I went out and bought 2 new bulbs after making sure the problem wasn't with the fuses. And as you probably already figured out, that didn't solve the problem.

Then I remembered an incident from a few weeks prior, where we had heavy rains pound the area. On my drive home during the downpour, I went through some pretty deep pools of water (8"+) at 20-30mph. It was actually kind of fun. I even sped past a Bentley that was unable make it through the water :D

My question is this: Could the water and/or resulting moisture have done damage to the electrical system as it pertains to the fog lamps? FWIW, all other electricals work fine and no water entered the vehicle. I did not look into the relays however, but I didn't tnink the relays would have been affected. What could be the problem? Should I check the relays anyways just to eliminate that possibility?

Thanks in advance for the help.

-are your headlights on or just the day time runners?

-they only come on when the actual headlights are on. even if the switch is ON.

-i thought mine were out once aswell.

Haha yes, all other lights work fine, i.e. DRL and headlights. I even performed the mod where the fog lights continue to stay on even with the high beams on. In other words, I'm pretty familiar with the function of the lights ;)

I have the opposite problem but they could be related. From searching it sounds like there can be a corrosion problem behind the kick panel fuse box that can affect the fog lights and horn.

Windshield been replaced recently?

Try removing the junction block and blowing it out with compressed air?

Windshield has not been changed AFAIK. Dash has to be removed to get the junction block out or even get at the back of it where old posts say the problem is  Heavy rain triggered my discovery of this problem and I did find a small amount of water higher up towards the A pillar so I'll have to check my drain tubes and try to fix the leak while I'm thinking about what to do about that pesky junction block.

EDIT: Looks like you can get to the back of that panel on your LHD trucks and it's just the RHD ones that require dash removal (A/C is in the way).

maybe we could start a sticky thread on when things start to go wrong? Assuming this OP is one of those?

My 01/2005 LC100 GXL L/H headlight lamp (drivers side for you USA guys) went 3 weeks ago...ARB "fog" lamp, R/H side died again. Twice now. L/H is ok. Not replaced since install.
Me thinks shoddy ARB wiring/installation at the ARB Kilsyth Head Office. (PM me on that) ...i've post about that on i think here, but also on 4WD Action (nee 4WD Monthly) about ARB in Kilsyth (H.O.).

And they damaged my LC100 installing my Safari Snorkel...probly posted on here too.

Back to OP....lhommec13 what history of the 'cruiser do you have?
driving through water is bread and butter for this vehicle (that is, it's designed to do it). Although, having said that....i was driving in extremely heavy rain for a few hours and then that bulb i mentioned above died.

Cause and effect? Nope...i put it down to me owning it since new 2005 and things starting to need to be replaced.

But, as an IT person, (amongst other things) i see issues "resolved"/closed as "unknown cause", which is unacceptable to me.

I did pick up my 100 a little over a year ago without much info on its history, but everything had been working fine just up until recently when the fog lights quit on me. Although I cannot be 100% certain that driving through the still water at moderate speed was the direct cause of this, I have a strong inkling that it had something to do with it.

I generally agree that these beastly vehicles are built to last. However, the following applies no matter what:

Electricity + Water = :bang:

Hmmm, my fog lights were working until I took them out this weekend. :frown: The back of the housings were so corroded that I couldnt even get the bulbs out. Ordered new ones this morning. Hopeful they will be in by the weekend so I can get them back in.

Although the truck looks like it has cold air intakes now with two holes in the bumper.

I would be very interested in knowing if simply replacing the corroded bulb housings solves the problem. If so, I may try that rather than checking the fog light relay located behind the driver side kick panel.

There is a relay that controls the fog lights behind the drivers side kick panel that goes out. I tried bulbs fuses and then with help from mud found out that there is a kick panel with relays. Its a beast to get to due to the wireing harness down there. Replaced the relay and all is well. Dont buy the relay from the dealer they wanted to charge me like $70. I found the same relay online for about $15.00.

Hi Carbon, I actually dug up your old post about your fog lights not working but the difference with your situation was that your relay was simply missing from the get-go. My fog lights were working a few weeks ago, which means the relay is definitely there. But is it good or bad? I don't know.

Coincidentally, I just came in from outside where I tried to get at the relay plate behind the kick panel. I managed to get the 3 screws out but the numerous wiring harnesses in the way make taking the plate out almost impossible. Did you unplug any of the harnesses in order to get it out?? Even doing that is tough, but I can't see how it could be done otherwise. I'm still curious whether replacing the semi-corroded plastic bulb housings will do the trick.

Please elaborate further on the kick plate wiring harness issue as i will be attempting this soon and have never heard of a kick plate. I bot my 2000 LV back in the spring and the previous owner doesnt know if they ever worked or not but i really, really want them to work.

Yea it was crazy tight in there and I unplugged a number of wiring harnesses. They all go back in without an issue. I was able to unplug the harnesses and then pry the relay board to a point where I could use the diagram to feel where the relays were and then replace. Not easy but do-able. Just make sure you get it all hooked back up.

Im diggin up bones here but my 2000 LC has fog lights that dont work ( yes I've checked the fuse). Today I looked at the kick panel fuses and there are 7 maybe 10 wiring harness connectors that plug to it and very little space to work with so I have doubts if I will be able to successfully get this done but am going to try as i need those fogs desperately. Let me get this right tho, the relay (rear heater and front fog lights) is on the backside of the panel that holds the fuses?

Hi 2001 100 series. Yesterday found vehicle parked, ignition off but fog lamps on. When I turned the switch on and off, horn started blowing continuously (not alarm). Finally got it to stop. I removed the horn fuse which is shared by fog lamps. That stopped both horn and fog lamps. There is a relay adjacent that fuse. Could it be the cause of the problem? I suppose I should try a new one. Anyone else had this experience?

Thanks

Did anyone ever resolve this? I am having a similar issue with my horn staying on and my low beams not working.
