Fuel Filter

I've searched and can't seem to find anything about changing fuel filters. Is there pressure to this filter that has to be dealt with before removing it? My 2002 Lx470 has 100k on it and I figure it might be time to change the filter.

I asked the dealership to change mine at 115K and they said it would never need changing under normal conditions. I'm skeptical of that but at 142K it is still fine.

Same here...I am pushing 200k with my original fuel filter.

I changed mine out at 105k, really easy. Crimp in the incoming line, carefully remove the clip for the outgoing line, unbolt and replace. It's super easy to get to, just sits on top of the DS fender.

My filter was changed at the 90k...I didnt ask for it to be done either. Tech just "did" it for me since he knows I'm picky about the truck.

Filter-To remove and separate foreign material which is unwanted. Sure thats something to keep in your cruiser forever. I wont,my 2 cents. Mike

I change mine every 60K. I just changed mine on the 99 @ 113,000 miles and you should have seen the junk that drained out of it. I know it won't be passing through to the injectors now.

I used a Fram filter - I got mine from Amazon for under $3.00 with shipping when I spent over $25.00. Took about 5 minutes to change. The fuel tank is supposed to have a pre-filter before the fuel pump making this a "lifetime" filter.

I'd pull that Fram filter out and replace it with a factory filter. The Toyota factory filters are one of the finest fuel filters made. I wish I had the link to it but there was an independent lab that did some tests on Toyota fuel filters and they were amazed with the findings. It isn't just the material inside that makes the filter special but how it is wound. A $3 Fram filter is not going to be the same quality.

Sounds like you want to change yours.

If you'll read a few posts up, you'll find that I did. With some of the places far off the highway I fill up, with old storage tanks and such, it's cheap insurance.

I took mine out at ~100k and then cut it open to see if I had wasted my money. The filter had a very large surface area. 2x~Height of filter x ~3ft. There was a large amount of very very fine silt trapped in the filter material. When dried it was like talcum powder.

I think a 100k change is reasonable and very easy. Cruiser Dan didn't object to me asking for one, Just threw it in the box and smiled.

my Toy parts guy and techs and the dealer say that if its a OEM filter they never change them, if its been replaced with other than OEM they replace with OEM.......I know its hard for me to swallow

Dirty Fuel Filter

I finally changed my fuel filter. 100,000 miles and quite dirty on the "IN" side, but not that dirty on the "OUT" side. (see pictures)
Glad I did it anyway. Cheap and a one job.
