Started a round trip... Canada!
Hello everyones,

Some of you already know/meet us but for the others here is the story:

We are a french coulpe travelling around the world since 2012 with a HZJ75. (http://2012lodysseedugobi.blogspot.ca/)

We left France in September 2012 and 13 months later we made it to Vladivostok, after shipping the car to Vancouver we are now in Canada and heading East.

We are curently near Calgary, in Canmore and we just lost the fifth gear on our Landcruiser on the hwy! First, 2nd, 3rd, Fourth and reverse are working so far..

Any help will be very welcome... We need to find a place to drop the transmission and open it to know what's wrong, and fix it of course...

We do have a cellphone if ever you want to contact us: 1 604 352 78 13.
Here is our Email: boudu22@hotmail.com

As we don't have internet acces all the time, the phone could be easier.

Thanks again, very much for your help, Ivan.

4wheelauto (780-468-2570) is a major LandCruiser parts supplier based out of Edmonton. Call and talk to Dan, he is very knowledgeable and carries a big new and used inventory. Little pricey though but only 3 hours away. Their are also a bunch of LandCruiser importers and parts suppliers on the west coast but obviously shipping cost and time could be an issue. Your best bet there would be John at Rad Cruiser (250-746-8977), again super knowledgeable and carries new and used

More soon

Broken transmission shaft. :(

It broke in the counter shaft just past the last bearing in the shaft on the tcase side. The end of the shaft is cantilevered into the extension house. The shaft obviously had a crack and then with cycles fatigued and failed. Luckily it didn't cause any other damage when it failed.

We are evaluating all their options and trying to find out which is the best for them. Everything from a new replacement to a used shaft and overhaul.

We will take this opportunity to do some other maintenance on the truck though.
Rear main seal
Maybe a clutch
T case overhaul
Rear pinion bearing replacement
Injector testing
Glow plug replacement
Compression test
Valve adjustments
Fuel system service

Those sorta of things. They will be staying with us a xanadont a while yet is all. No biggie. Despite being French, hon hon hon, they are pretty cool folks. ;)

Well Ivan and Katia were touring Edmonton collecting parts all day. New contacts and plunger for starter. Diff rebuild, trans rebuild, t case rebuild ordered and a few other errands. Dan at 4wheelauto seriously hooked us up with parts for the rebuild of this troopy.

The blurry plans

Ivan removing wheel bearings from rear hub. They didn't look to bad but can be replaced.

We hesitated to remove the diff. So glad we did though. Bearings were in very tough shape. The carrier had 1-3mm play side to side and pinion races looked bad.

We ended the night with flywheel and clutch change

All the while Katia and ratpuke got the troopy looking spiffy with a polish, touch up, and wax

Might take an evening off and let Ivan clean up the buckets of parts we need to clean prior to rebuild.

Is that all yer doing!? Better freshen the air in the tires too while yer there.

Hows that countershaft from Zippo's tranny looking? The input shaft I took from it was worn but is still going strong.

Much better cleaning than me

Donor counter shaft is out. And looks good. We will liquid die inspect for cracks. Teeth look good.

We did find that they are missing their 5th gear plastic oiler was missing from their t case. This meant the 5th gear needle bearing weren't getting as much oil. It may not be causal to the failure but certainly could have contributed.

Wousers! You are really giving that troopy some love! A real demonstration of what makes this Cruiser Community so great! I wish I could come help but I'm sunk into a basement development to get my wife's commercial kitchen up and running for Jan 1.
