Uh, you're going at least 38" right? :flipoff2:

I think Pimp has Yukons, but I could be wrong. I'm sure he'll stick his fugly head in here. Not so sure how I'd feel about strength of the 5.29's though. That may not be an issue, but I thought someone had issues with these before with only like 37's or smaller on. :-[

You can have issues with any gears. Recently broke a Toyota oem set of 4.88's on the truck with 35's. I run 5.29's (Yukon) on the ShortBus.

We used to use Yukon, but due to quality issues we have dropped them for now until they have sorted out a new supplier. FWIW, Yukon is just the house brand for Randy's and Precision is the house brand for Reider Racing. Precision does not come in 5.29's. We have done a couple of sets of Precision and were happy with it.

As for third member rebuilt. Anything with more than 70k miles, you might as well replace the bearings. Not that they are worn, but if you try to get them of the carrier and off the pinion, they might get damaged. If you calculate the time in to do this, it is easier just to regear with new bearings.

No need to remove them off the carrier when doing factory locked diff, so sometimes you can re-use the carrier bearings, and only replace pinion bearings.

<hijack>Is that true? 100 rearend is SF, even with a locker?</hijack>

I know the '98-00 4Runners (SF axle) had optional e-lockers. You use the same axles, just swap in the e-locker third (need to make axle housing mods so for the new bolt pattern/actuator motor). My comment was merely an educated guess, since Toyota has used the same basic SF setup on the 60 series, mini-trucks through '95 (and probably the taco/tundra), plus 4runners through '02. Of course, I can't be 100% sure w/o looking at a '98-99 100 series FSM. Can anyone with the FSM verify this? I thought the only current production overseas cruisers w/ FF axles are the 70 series (76/78) cruisers (all, even drum versions) and maybe 105's (certainly the UN versions have FF rears w/ drum brakes).

As an aside, I did see a Tundra dualie owned by Toyota USA in Torrance, CA...it had a power tailgate, dual rear wheels, and, I presume, FF axle (as the mini-trucks w/ dual rear wheels and drum brakes have FF axles). I've only seen one like this. Also saw a hilux D4D 3.0L turbo diesel crewcab at South Bay Toyota (right down the street from Toyota USA), left-hand drive! (in the US for a show in Vegas...no VIN at all). Some Toyota USA manager was telling me Toyota plans to build a multi-story museum next to the 405 freeway that'll feature every vehicle they've built.
