You guys think $75 is a fair price?

For the money you saved her by not having an increase on her insurance and your time to have it done...IMHO $75 is very resonable.

This assumes she has insurance. If she doesn't have insurance, there's a whole other level of irresponsibility going on here, and she needs to take care of that before the next poor bastard she hits has injuries and thousands of dollars in damage instead of just a dented end cap, and she's in so far over her head she can never make it right. Alarmist? Maybe, but then I live in the part of the country with the highest percentage of uninsured drivers.

I think you shouldn't take any more money than is needed to fix it, but I also think she needs to cough up some insurance info, and if she can't, she needs a good scaring.

Well gents, I settled at $75. As much as I would've liked to have taken her $200, I didn't want to seem like I was taking advantage of her. It would've looked bad on my part especially if her boss, a fellow business owner in the same shopping center, found out that I took her $200 for such a minor incident. Maybe from this incident, I'll keep reminding each time I see her to get insurance and pay more attention to things around her.

Thanks for all your input on this matter!

And also, SHE IS NOT HOT! So sorry guys, there won't be any pics!

But here's a photo who drives the 80 on a daily basis.

I say the cost of the new part + shipping + a reasonable labor amount for the time to install should be the max you charge.

This is what pisses me off the most of this whole incident. People like her make our insurance rates go up. I mean, all of us play by the rules, and it seems like the uninsured motorists get off easier whenever you hear any minor or major incident like this happens. Maybe I was being too nice:frown: Maybe I'll end-up telling her that it actually needs a new end cap for $83.50 on top of the $75 to refinish. Or if she thinks it's too much, I'll just tell her that I'll have my insurance company take care of it. Maybe that'll scare her a bit.

I dropped the part off yesterday and I was told that it will take a little bit of work to get the dent out on the plastic, but it should be no problem.

A new end cap does not require a refinish, it's already the proper color..

take the $75, then call the dmv and report her for no insurance. as someone who lives in a county with 35% uninsured, its people like that that should have their cars seized and licenses revoked.

this thread is ridiculous. why are you still talking about repairing the old part? order the new part from dan and give her the receipt and ask her to pay. if you like, charge her a 6 pack for the install although you won't finish two before it is done. move on.

Alright, I got the part(s) back a few hours ago. They look fantastic! I went ahead and had the DS rear redone as well, 'cause it didn't turn-out as well as I would've liked it the last time. I will be installing them later tomorrow afternoon. Fresh paint!! Check them out.
