Well, I finally made a decision. I went with the BFG's.

I still think that the Geolanders would have worn better on the highway, but I think the BFGs will be close enought and give me a little more off-road ability. My wife was a little agitated, but she will get over it.

BTW, the tire guy told me that the new Geolanders (the II's) have a different compound and are wearing better than the originals. This might account for what some of you said about seeing poor performance from the Geos in the past.

The BFG's do come with a mileage warrenty- although it is only 40k, not 50k like the Geos.

Thanks for all the input.

Cool, BFGs are good tires.

Incidently with all this talk of directional tread it reminds me of some high performance magazine I was reading awhile back, can't remember which one. But they reminded the readers that only the tread is directional, not the tire. There is no safety issue running a directional tire backwards, except it will not perform the same when water is involved. But the tire itself is fine, they pointed to several people who live in Arizona, LA, etc (places that get virtually no rain) who would routinely run their directional tires from Porsches, Vettes and such backwards to get more mileage out of them. Not always the best advice but it's only the tread that is directional, the tire will not fly apart or something bad if you run it backwards.

Just my $0.00 worth..
