I cut part of my front bumper slats so i can reach my hand in from the front: Media - 200 series picture thread - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/200-series-picture-thread.257436/post-16029136
My hand fits perfect on the driver side lower grille slot to free spool the winch running the WARN VR12S.
For the box, I did a similar bracket as OP and cut the sight shield to be able to install the control in box if needed (it works wireless as well) and cover it up with the same rubber edge guard as the back of the fairlead. Will post some pics later.

Does the lower bumper cover have any mounting points with this winch mount?
I see the SDHQ winch mounting set up has provisions for the lower bumper cover to mount. Not seeing this on the TT.

I switched from a used TT mount on hand to the new SDHQ before I did my installation. Very pleased with the unit, seems to have more stiffness built into it than the TT frame plus has pickup points for the bumper fascia bottom and ends.
While it does have a well though out mount solution for the winch controller, I went with the Warn remote kit (smaller box shell) that I mounted up higher on LHS radiator shield using rivnuts. I also used at battery cutoff switch to keep the power cables unenergized under normal driving. The switch also powers 2 "rock" lights installed on plates positioned above the drum.
