Rusty Pig,

Thanks for the part numbers and the pricing! It's good to know that option exists, even if it is a little pricey. BTW, I think the total cost of my mounts was under $20, but they definitely don't look as pretty as factory mounts either. :)

Setbacks

When I was went to install the new front driveshaft to check for clearance of the new crossmember location, I realized that the DS had the wrong end on it. The bolt holes didn't line up, since it was a cardon joint. Pic 1 shows the difference. The RH one is the original one.

I also noticed that the later model slave cylinder I bought (way better since it self adjusts and doesn't require an external return spring or spring bracket) didn't want to line up with the clutch fork. In Pic 2 I put a bolt in place to show approx where the cylinder should be.

A quick call to IPOR made me feel better. They had both the correct DS and the bracket (with bolts) that I needed for the slave cylinder, and said I could come right down to pick them up. I was under the gun to finish since the plan was to take the truck wheelin' at my cabin over the coming weekend.

Pic 3 shows the slave cylinder mounted using the new bracket. I added an auto-bleeder to the back of the slave cylinder, since they're so much easier to use when you're working alone. If you get one, make sure that you get the longer version (I think 30mm thread length) otherwise it won't seal before the threads run out.

Thanks Ducatiman,

I ride a Ducati too-749. Between the FJ62 and the Duke, I'm always looking for an excuse to go somewhere. :) What do you ride?

Wooo to the Hoooo!

I routed the hard clutch line from the master cylinder to the flex hose coming from the slave cylinder. Then I filled and bled the system in about 5 minutes (and I was working alone). Gotta love those automatic bleeders! Finished up some other odds and ends, and had it off the lift at 2:00 AM on Friday morning.

Time for the moment of truth. The truck started right up and drove great! :steer: I couldn't believe the pickup the truck has now.

The next day (Friday), I spent about an hour cleaning up the interior. I cut out the hole for the gear shift knob using some snips, and as a temporary measure covered the old auto shifter hole with speed tape, and the rubber gasket that used to sit under the auto shifter. I'll TIG in a new cover when I get a chance. The self tapping screws that I got for mounting the boot bezels turned out to be a tad too short with the carpet in place, so I need to pick some longer ones up and install them, but otherwise, I got her all buttoned up.

That Friday night, I hit the road for 5 hrs. to head up to the cabin. The truck did great! No problems on the way up, wheelin' or on the way back. I kept doing things I would never have thought possible before. Accelerating up a hill, passing up a hill, doing anything besides deccelerating up a hill. ;)

This mod was a lot of fun to do, but the real fun is driving her now. Next up is building a rear bumper, adding a snorkel, an ARB front bumper, add a leafs in the rear.......

This is so great to hear. I just got off the phone with Tor - my FJ-62/2FE is scheduled to get an h55f 11/22!

Good for you man! You're gonna love it. You'll be hot-roddin' over/through anything in no time. Out of curiosity, how much time do they say it will take? How many labor hours? I've been thinking about how quick I could do another one having been through it already-probably an hour or two ;)

Surplus

Now that I've swapped in the new transimission and transfercase, I'll be selling the original ones, which are both in good working condition. I've got to figure out where to post them on this site (besides here). If anyone is interested in both, or one or the other, (or can tell me where to post them up) drop me a line. Thanks.
