Any thoughts from the community on this rig?
Link to Universal.
Link to Yaesu.

My requirments are for a unit that can be moved from the 40 to the 100 without to much grief.
The 40 is a pretty brutal environment for electronics, wide open to dust, rain, mud, thiefs, etc.
The 100 is more secure but the dash is already pretty busy so size is important.

Rusty,

It looks like a very nice unit. Very impressive feature set.

Bluetooth and wireless cloning (probably wireless programming also)!

Yaseu FT10M-R 4.5" x 1.6" x 7.00"
Uniden 510XL... 4.5" x 1.4" x 6.75"

I like it and I bet it will fit in the ashtray slot of the 95-97 models. With the BT headset you may not need or want a handheld mic.

Maybe wireless serial COM too.

I liked the BT intercomm feature. Driver to passenger communication on the highway in the 40 is pretty much limited to essentials and carried on the top of your lungs screams. Thats with ther BFG T/A's, when I put the TSL's on there is no communication at speeds over 45MPH.

My 40 is so loud on the highway, we wear ear plugs, no kidding.

We don't need earplugs with the TA's but the TSL's make a 40 sound like a B52 under full throttle. Before I saw this radio I was considering aircraft style noise reduction headphones and an aircraft intercom. The intercoms are cheap but the headphones are pricey. Plus we would look kind of funny.

I also notice that the radio receives broadcast AM/FM and has an audio input for an Ipod type device.

After herding the 40 at highway speed with high cross winds this weekend Blue Tooth VOX and intercom are sounding more and more attractive.
I just wish Yaesu would publish pricing on the BT options for this rig.

I was at Ham Radio Outlet and they have no info on the Bluetooth options for this radio and no one at the Dayton Hamfest knew anything either....why make a radio then not offer the options???

It's not uncommon for the marketing geeks to force the release of products before all the options are designed, don't ask how I know:rolleyes: . Sometimes it takes longer to get the options to work correctly than the original estimate. I suspect this is the case with the bluetooth options.

Is this radio on the market yet?

See my link to Universal in the OP.

That link does not work for me today. It worked when it was originally posted. ParadiseCruiser posted the same link a few months ago in another venue. It is my understanding this radio is to be available soon but, as of recently, it has not been officially released for sale in the US market.

So, I will repeat my question. Is this radio on the market yet?

this does look like a design that is really more specific to quads etc than to a regular truck, from what I gather, though... and you pay quite a bit of extra for that, too, no?

phone call to a dealer or Yaesu faster and more conclusive than typing the above...? we do tend to rely on MUD, don't we.... :)

I called Universal, they do not have inventory even though they have it, with a price, in their catalog. As do many other vendors.
Since I have no funds to buy any radio this is not currently a problem for me.

My FJ40 is more like a quad than a "regular" truck. I don't even own a hard top so it is never secure from thieves.
As I mentioned it is a brutal environment.

Of all the people on 'Mud, YOU have the audacity to lecture me about the proper way to seek information?
