out of curiosity, would it have been possible to mount rear shoulder belts for the forward facing rear seat? one reason i haven't thought about a 40 series is because i can't put my kid's car seat back there.

It would be possible. Just about like anything with these, just takes a will and a little ingenuity. I was also going to weld another cross piece to the roll bar to protect them a bit more also but never got around to it. With the lap belts there is really nothing in front of them to hit during an impact.
