so it makes sense to carry a spare -- or at to least have a non-fried one... :D

Great thing about mech diesel is I can run without electricity ;)

Thanks

Hey John, how long have you had that Mean Green? I considered getting their high amp FJ62 alt at the end of last year, but got a factory 80A Denso unit instead. Do you get the 12V at idle that usually comes with high output alts?

Something is up with yours. May look like it's the alt crapping out, but my guess is that the fusable link that runs off of the white wire (I want to say it's 10 guage wire) my be fried out.

On my 60, I was running a heavy-duty inline fuse with a 30 amp blade fuse in it, but it couldn't handle the load at all. I replaced it with a 16 guage fusable link and it's doing much better. I've also got a 14 guage f-link to put in it later. Since I put in the 16 guage f-link, I get good, even and constant power at idle, even running the fan on high with the headlights on.

(I didn't buy the factory $60 f-link. All of the OEM connectors had been yanked out by the PO so I got new ones from O'Reilly for about $2.)
