...I bought a Wrangler unlimited?

Not that I'm going to, apparently one needs extra cash to acquire these things, but IF I did.

Everytime I see one I like them more and more. It has everything I'd want in a new vehicle of that ilk : 4 doors, removable top, solid front axle, coil suspension, front and rear lockers, etc.

And its cheaper than the FJ, which is a nice vehicle, just not exactly what I want(ed) in a 'new' Landcruiser.

Well, I took one out for a test drive the other weekend :) Fun... hard to come by right now (4dr wrangler unlimited) as well! The only dealer that has them is down on southwest marine drive.

Most are being sent straight to the states... I have heard and read some rumors that a diesel version is due out, but no dates yet from Jeep. So far only the new Grand Cherokee comes with a diesel option and no diesels for the U.S.

The salesperson let me take it off-road in richmond... handled pretty damn good! Nice and quiet in the interior as well! Doors come off in a snap, and the top is pretty quick to get off. Interior has loads of space, even the back seats... not the tallest but I am 6' at 200 pounds, and I felt comfortable.

Loads of room with the seats folded down... enough for me to crawl into and snooze if I wanted to.

Take it for a drive... see what you think. The new six speed tranny is impressive, and the suspension was smooth!

Shoot you??

No, just bring you to the local shrink!!

I also have to admit that I've looked at them acouple of times. The most interesting one that J##p has come out with.

sad eh?

it's funny if Toyota made the FJ kinda like that we'd be all over it. The fj is what it is, but Toyota missed the enthusiast crowd IMOP.

4 door, solid axle on coils.....and if it had diesel. That is exactly what everyone wants from Toyota.

Toyota NA is dead to me for awhile. They think we only want 380 hp pick ups.

Strangely, I have some friends who did EXACTLY that. Sold their HDJ81 and picked up....a wrangler unlimited (Rubicon?). So far they are very happy. However, I suspect once the usual Jeep problems surface their love will rapidly turn into something alltogether different.

You know. Jeep is still doing it. They are still building a SFA offroad rig with factory lockers at an good price. Good on them. I congradulate them.

Toyota stopped doing it, and jeep has been doing it for 50 years.
While toyotas are the better truck, Jeeps are cheap. There is tones of after market stuff out there. Parts are dime a dozen. Cheap panels, tubs, hardtops, lots of lift options, etc.... Plus they are cheap to buy. You can get a "nice" used jeep for $5-8. If your not rocking crawling, or mud bogging they are not to bad for parts. They are still not as tuff as a cruiser, but for most people that is fine. And when they do break something, its cheaper to fix.

Truth be told, I would not blame you.
The new 4 door jeep is what the FJ cruiser should of been like.
A 4 door version of the classic FJ. I would not blame you at all.

I am very thankful of the JDM imports right now.
You can easily get a real cruiser agian, in good shape.
All the good canadian stuff was rusting away or going to the US.

In 10 years the options would of been far and few between.
Lots of 4runners, and 80 and 100 series. But the 40s and 60's would probably be harder to come by.

Cheers,
N.
