Are you serious? Are we talking stock suspensions here? I don't know about a stock 60, but when my 60 had the 2.5 inch lift, it was almost as comfortable as riding around in a shopping cart.
-Ferg-

Absolutely I am serious. My 60 has its stock springs and extended shackles. The 80s I have driven dont feel too much different then my 60. They are trucks too after all and the coil springs dont make them into some sort of plush german sedan.
Now on washboards and gravel roads I find the 80's suspension feels more in control then the leaf sprung 40/55/60s that I have had. But on road I dont think the difference is that much to fuss about, not enough to factor in the comprassion anyway...

I love my FJ62, but I will have to sell it when we move back to Australia -- sometime in the next 12 to 18 months. Then I will be faced with an even tougher decision because of the variety of cruisers they have. 78 troopie would be my first pick but they are still relatively new (read expensive) and only have 2 doors. I will probably end up with a HJ61 or an 80 series.

This has been my desktop for the last 2 months...

60 have style....the only 80 I see have spinners and the ridiculous gold trim....stay with 60 you wont regret it.

nope, dont do it you will regret it alot!! Thats a long time to own a truck and i think you will regret it. post pics of both. I have to agree with most of the posts above as a 60 has tons more personality and attention that an 80! You have to decide, but I certainly wouldnt do it.
I will say this one time.

GRASS ALWAYS I SAY ALWAYS LOOKS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE!!!!!

personal experiece from when i was younger! Still wish I had that 1st car, but i just had to have the newer model that was a convertible! yeah i kick myself everytime!!!

i have my 60 since she was brand new when my dad bought it and since i was a little boy i always dream about getting my hands on it. then he bought a blazer and keep the 60 on the garage till i grew up and when i finished the school he gave it to me. that was the best day of my life!!!!

i can't imagine on selling it for me it's just impossible cause my cruiser it's my life. 60's rules....

don't ever sell it, just keep it!!!!

i have kicked the idea around of selling mine for different reasons. mainly for money or for the possibility of getting a 40 instead. i have a DD now, so i don't need the 60 as a DD. the only reason i would sell mine is if i were to go the 40 route. although long term i would like a 60 and a 40 or an 80 and a 40....

Hell ya I would. That's if anybody was looking to BUY an FJ60... And that's if I could ONLY have one--not both. I love the 60s and I love my 60, but it's a little too incovenient for a young family. Ever try putting a baby car seat in the back seat of an SOA 60? Ok, ok. So ya, then just have a stock or slightly lifted 60. I still say it's a bit too inconvinient. When I'm by myself in my 60, I could give a rats ass if my doors unlock automatically or if my windows auto roll up and down or how cold the A/C blows or how warm the heater is or how fast I can drive on the freeway... But add in a wife or girlfriend and some young kids or toddlers and you're going to be wishing you had the 80. Not to mention how much smoother of a ride the coil-sprung 80 is over the leaf-sprung 60...

-Ferg-

So what happens if your 60 happens to have power windows and locks, blows cold A/C, has a sweet lowered SOA setup that rides really well on the highway, and gets 20 miles per gallon on biodiesel?

Seriously, for me this isn't about convenience, if I wanted convenience I'd drive a Honda Accord. For me Land Cruisers are a passion and while the logical arguments ABSOLUTELY point to the 80 series, in my personal preference the 60 series is best. You can see a 60 series coming down the street from a long ways away, with the boxy body and those bug eyes, and the tetro looking colors.

Don't get me wrong, Ferg, I really like 80's, I think they are a KICKASS Land Cruiser, arguably one of the best models of Land Cruisers ever designed. I just think they're a little too generic for me. No logic, just heart.

I am done struggling with the issue -

I had my 60 for sale so the wife could get an 80 -

I got a couple a offers - then just figured - you know the wife is hot and will look good in that 85 Dodge Power Wagon! There are just tooooo many more mods I wanna do to the 60!

The 60 has classic good looks - with an OME suspension it rides like a dream - with Camry seats and soundproofing and a $500 watt stereo - hey very nice - guess I am keeping mine - oh and keeping the 40! Best of both worlds!

I've been organizing my Cruiser archives little by little, a couple of hundred pics every night after work. Here's a couple of pics spanning the last 15 years:

good to hear that...wish i had the $$$ though and i would have bought it from you!

Seriously Bob, you came to the wrong place to ask about getting rid of you 60. I bet if you asked the same question over on the 80 series forum you would get the opposite answers from everyone there.

Good luck tho. You will be happy with which ever decision you make.

We'll see you in about 10 months ;) . Then you can show me some real trails.

Yeah I know if I posted on the 80 site they would say do it, that 80's are the best and that it would be a real move up.
But I posted here because you and I love the 60's for many reasons. Mostly because they may have been our first Cruisers. Why I raised mine from a baby!
But I have a great opportunity to buy a really sweet and set up 80 from a friend of a tard.
It won't have the body style of our beloved 60's but it has all the years of experience that Toyota put into making a better Cruiser. The 80 will also be 12 years newer and that might help me for the next 20 years of ownership. Plus it will walk all over my 60 on the trails.
So thanks for all of the support. For all of the pictures of my 60 that make it even harder for me to go through this.
Keep your eye on the classifieds after August.
Will you guys let me hang out with you on the trails if I have an 80? ( please? )
