Would there be any interest in doing a "Kids" ride?

I know lots of people in the club have younger kids. Would anybody have any interest in doing a "kids" specific run? I read the last issue of Toyota Trails and they talked about doing something like this.

It would probably involve a mild trail, with lots of stopping and activities specifically for the kids. Obviously a Lunch stop.

Metberry seems like it would be a good trail. Stop at the bottom and play in the river, grill burgers and dogs.

Anyone would be welcome kids or not, but it would be specifically be geared toward the kids.

What do the masses think?

Mark, sounds like a good idea to me. I'd be up for it schedule dependent.

My kids are always asking "When are we going to get to the big rocks?". I guess that's what happens when they start wheeling at 5 months of age.

But it isn't always about the obstacles, they had a good time at Hacket last week when they found a rotting deer head. I didn't realize how bad that would stink, I never should have let them bring that home.

 I was wondering about that when I saw the baggie.

Even in a plastic bag, the cruiser was smelly by the time we got home. The kids ran into to tell mom about the deer head they found and ask if they could boil it on her stove as one of the CLC members had suggested to them. She was less than excited about the idea, and banished it from the house. I had to get it out of the cruiser, so, not learning my lesson, I set it on the work bench and the entire garage had a smell by the morning. So, it had to go.

I just read the article Mark referred to. It sounds like a good idea.

Mark, My daughter was wheeling with me by the time she was one. You just have to be prepared, bring lots of treats and things to keep her busy, you'll be fine. BTW, that was my thoughts on putting Metberry on the July trail run, so we could have a family day, I love that trail for family time, and my wife has become pretty good at going down this trail and actually keeping her eyes open.

I went to Metberry with my neighbors last year, well maybe it was two summers ago already. We had a great time playing in the river all afternoon. The river does have some deeper spots and current so you do have to keep an eye on the littlest ones.

Another great place for kids to play is the Sand Dunes National Park. It's a little farther away but worth the trip. About the last week in June is when its the warmest weather and the water is still running enough to play in.

Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve (U.S. National Park Service)

And there is TONS of great free campsites just outside the Dunes park along Medano pass if we go over from the Wet Valley side. My wife and I camped there a couple of years ago and then went into the dunes early the next morning.

Metberry is close and has a good area to spend time at the bottom.

Mark, You need to start her early. With all of the rocking, bouncing, and rattling, my kids end up taking a lot of naps when we wheeled. I remember loading up all the snacks, sippy, cups, etc when the kids were younger. One year on a Christmas tree run, we forgot the diapers, but Norm assured me that I could make one from some shop rags and duct tape if we needed to do a trail repair. Once they get older and have a bunch of activities, sports or otherwise, then Saturday's get booked up. So, enjoy the time wheeling with her when she is young.

So Metberry is on for this weekend as the fam trip? I've been out of town for most of May/June and kind of lost track with the site being down.

Meeting at Western? Time?

I've done some work on the old tank and can't wait to try it out!

I can't make it but I know Sam wanted to go if it is still on.

I'm in for this weekend! Sorry I missed the picnic & sangre trip this past weekend - helping neighbor build a garage.

Who's gonna take over and lead this run? I just want to know the time and place to meet, and if we are having a run. I got a friend who just bought a land rover and wants to try it out if he has the time to. A little info would be great. I am going to bring my grill, but you might want to supply your own cook because I don't look that good in an apron.
