One more picture from today...Just wanted to share how I planned to make the drawers look oem. Lay a long piece of cardboard along the lines of the tailgate. Trace the countours from the inside, then trim the parts you don't need in the template. So far I have about 5 hours in this build(including running to home depot to pick up supplies) but it was well worth it! Cardboard tailgate sure looks durable:hillbilly:

the carpet I used matches 99% but it looks like its the color of the wood in this pic haha

I will use this fabric for the sides and the front of the main drawers

Looking really good.

LD-

What year is your truck? I love the side panel in the rear. Mine is a different layout.

Oh maybe your truck doesn't have the rear AC option?

Maybe you should remove the third row seat belts? I'm just sayin. :)

Lol I would, but I am notorious for losing little bolts no matter how organized I try to stay:D

No rear AC for me! Mine is a 1998. Hope to have this done by the weekend so you can see the storage when you pick up the frb;)

Nice to hear from the norcal bay area guys lol

NorCal!

Looks like I can get the polythylene pretty cheap...and locally!
HyPact® UHMW Polyethylene: TAP Plastics

What do you guys think of having a clear face for the drawers? Need opinions on this part lol I thought that having a see through container could be convenient but then I'd have to figure out how to lock them up
Acrylic Sheets - Green Edge: TAP Plastics
Clear plastic looks like crap after it gets scratched, and it will get scratched fast. Just my opinion, but you ask for it. :grinpimp:

LJ_24 - Any reason you are putting a thick plywood bottom on your storage? Most aftermarket drawers just have sides and a top with drawers and rails attached to the sides of the platform.

I built some last summer and made the small mistake of having my drawer fronts flush with the bottom of the cargo area... so when I pull them out they rub the tailgate a bit. It's no big deal, but had I to do it over again, I would not had the drawer fronts flush with the bottom.

The plywood base should let the drawers slide just over the tailgate. Add a few shims to slightly tilt the base if you aren't getting enough clearance.

I would use carpeted wood for the back panel. It gets abused if you load anything back there. Here is a photo of the rear panel I added to mine. It locks, and fits a Mossberg 500 to the right of the drawers.

Nice work so far. Looking forward to the finished product.

Yes it will scratch easily. The more expensive plastic does not scratch as easily but it will still scratch. I spent $$$$$$$ on the stuff to baby proof my railings and deck in the house and they looked horrible a month after. The expensive stuff last 6 months. The cheaper Home Depot stuff lasted maybe a month.

Your Drawers should end up looking like this when you are done. Anything less will not be tolerated.

Lol if they dont look like that, whats the penalty?

Thanks man! ahha Looks like I wont be straying from the home depot wood;)

That is awesome! Clean work! I wish I had your craftmanship

Keep up the good work! It's always nice to do things yourself... I'm a glutton for punishment when it comes to my cruisers...

Lol it gets addicting....and also it gets frustrating when everything does not go perfectly :bang: That being said, I found the supports I need for the sides, so they can swing upward. It was cheaper than my hose clamps for my CV's:hillbilly:

Thinking of adding these...to keep tool boxes and coolers secure
