Right....but the thread-eee mentioned the OEM being garbage. Do you know whathe means?

Take another look at LC trim closely. Does that look good to you? How about add some warping to it. Discolored, faded, warped = garbage.

Wild! Man..if it's gonna warp it'll be in 200* AZ heat. :D

Dang...mine's fine. I do use furniture cleaner on it (sometimes).

I'm sure the LX's is better, though I'd not want the LX wood color. Don't like the red-ish tint. Like the dark stuff.

where are the pics? we need pics! :flipoff2:

man i had pics on the original thread, but i think i deleted them off of my server. sorry. what specifically did you want pics of?

yeah the laminate wood sucks. the main problem is the acrylic coating tends to seperate from the "wood" paper.

I stripped all my wood junk except around the radio and climate knobs. Looks much better. Altho it does seem a little bare now.

Hmmm, that picture of the 98 LC fake wood looks familiar. The spots are worse now. Maybe if I wait long engough it will all turn gold colored and be a nice match for the beige interior. :grinpimp:

Only the front arm rests have the discolration. The back arm rests look good as new. Glad to hear others are having good success in getting them off. Performance products had replacement kits in their Toyota truck catalog. Had considered replacing, but now removing everything but the center console piece seems a good option.

Removed ALL of my faux wood this afternoon - I used a combination of heat from the heater, a hair dryer, and a metal putty knife with the leading edge covered with masking tape. Even with the masking tape and extreme care however the putty knife left a few (very small) scratches, so I gave up on it and stuck to the hair dryer and my hands. Just heat up the narrow areas of the faux wood, tear this area off by hand, and then work your way forward or backwards using the hair dryer to apply heat as you go. The narrow areas will come off almost immediately - the trim around the center console (where the nav unit/radio is) came off in almost one piece. The thicker areas such as the passenger door switch will take longer - just take your time and stick to a hair dryer and your hands to avoid scratches.

Since I was just shopping for one, I can tell you that most of the TLC's have discolored wood -appeared it was from moisture? I found one that was good - but was lucky because that would not have stopped me from purchasing the right vehicle. I like the quality look of the reddish LX over the LC wood - IMO.
Some have it by the shifter and some don't as well for those still shopping (tftrian)

I would like to see pics of the 99/00 LC to LX center stereo and AC area conversion - the older threads have the pics removed from the server change - or so what I read.

I actually still have those major pieces (shifter console/cup holder, center dash radio/hvac) laying around somewhere. It really made my '99 LC nice. I think I left the door switches in it when I sold it.

The major problem w/ the center dash is the curvature. You end up having to have a gap around your double din radio, or have a piece fabricated to fit, which would probably be around $150 to have a nice one done.
