After 2 days parked underground at a winter lodge my 2016 spit out a check engine code this morning as I prepared to leave, Also, Collision assistance malfunction code and a LDA malfunction code... The truck only worked on what seemed like 2nd gear, it shifted very harsh into reverse or drive. The screen only showed the back up camera and the seat heater buttons were non-responsive yet they were heating...

I checked and looked for a fuse but could not find anything relevant, I also disconnected the battery and waited a while but no luck. Because it was our last day and we had a 6 hour drive home (wife +2 kids) I had to get a rental have it towed to a nearby small town which happens to have a small dealership.

Has anyone experienced such craziness?

At least we got home safe, on a RAv4!!

I’ve never experienced that. My first is to check the battery.

I had something similar on my 16. Don't remember what lights came on but transmission behavior was the same and like it didn't want to go into a gear. It was caused by reversing from garage and putting it in drive before a full stop. Battery reset, etc didn't do anything either. Dealership did something and it was fine since then, but I make sure I am in a full stop before shifting gears. Looks like there are a lot of electronics packed in and just mechanical and calibration went out. Have you done something similar when parking it?

Not that I can recall but for such an off-road machine that would be a terrible thing to experience on the trail...

Rodent damage is a real possibility.

Yep that was told to me a possibility... an expensive one too but covered by insurance...
Should find out soon, truck is at a small dealer now being triaged

I didn’t know insurance covered rodent damage. That could be a real life saver (ok, MONEY saver) if that’s the culprit.

I would go with the battery here...
I understand the engine started but that would still be my first line of investigation.
I hope that's what it is!

Dealer took a look at it today and could not figure out what the problem is...
They’ll keep working on it...

Is there a way to find out what was the issue/diagnosis?

Is it confirmed there is a shifting sequence that leads to an (electronics) system failure?

It would be something to watch for... (not to do), I know I have done something like that before albeit not that I recall in the new LC200 and more likely going from forward into reverse, but still...

Any update from the dealer?

That said, if has been especially cold, the transmission can 'kick' when being put into gear. This is usually because the motor is at high idle to warm. My '14 will do this occasionally if I don't wait a moment for the engine to settle.

Regarding the LDA and collision detection: Snow, ice, dirt, and/or mud build up on the exterior of the vehicle can interfere with these systems.

Final UPDATE:
After 2 weeks at the dealer they finally figured out through the tech line that it was all cause by a transmission computer ground wire that blew a fuse!

Thanks for letting us know what they found. Hope it doesn’t happen again.

Glad they sorted you out!

Still weird. Ground wires in vehicles aren't usually fused. Only the positive wires.
