Damn.. Went to get some more PF-53's at two different Pep Boys.... All 4 filters I checked are now the "E-core" ones. Looks like I'll be finding a place that sells Wix filters now or checking at Napa.
Thanks for all the info.

bummer, well no more AC Delco's

That wix pack sounds good, or maybe talk to Dan and see what is still good in Toyota filters.

I run WIX oil, air, fuel filters on all my Cruisers(except the 45LV, it uses the replacible element style toyota filter) Very good filters and were 1st recomended to me by my Toyota parts guy.

I received my order. All filters have the Napa logo on them. I've been buying my Wix oil filters at Napa for several years now, so no surprises there.

The air filters look to be better than OE: the housing is metal instead of plastic, and , while maybe not the best measure of filtration capability, the Wix filter has about 164 pleats versus about 132 on the Toyota filter. That's well over 20% more pleats; almost 25% more. No telling the filtration charateristics of the paper in one versus the other. At $6.50 versus about $19.50(at least that's what I paid last time with my discount), Wix is a very good option.

I haven't had a chance to directly compare one fuel filter to the other, but, the Wix filter looks to be of high qualilty.

I am a big proponent of OE parts, but this is one area that aftermarket is compelling.

YMMV !

what is the p.n. for air filter?

Should be 42159...but I did not see it on the menu/list.

They are still available through, just not as "toyota" filters here in the usa. If you know where to look, you can find the 90915-20004's in a Nippon box. Made in Japan. AFAIK, Nippon is the OEM manufacturer of this filter in Japan.

I can't understand why the 20004's are no longer available , yet they come as the OE filter on the Tacoma and the FJ...and probably several others

Like this ;p

I really like that oil filter boss with the built-in drip catcher that Toyota put on the FJC. I wish we had one on the 80 and the Sienna.

Where??

Also, does mobil one have an equivalent filter the the 20004?

Thanks,
Sterling

i will just point out here that the fj cruiser comes from the factory with the 20004 filter. maybe toyota will revive the part?

For those who use Wix, they are available at very good prices at www.fleetfilter.com

I just ordered the 51515 (they will actually be Napa Gold 1515 - same filter) and the price was $2.61 each (plus tax if you live in the Republic of Texas) and shipping of course. Shipping was about 40 cents per filter on my 24 filter order.

FWIW

Has anyone else ordered the 51348 or 51515 filter from fleetfilter.com and compared them to a NAPA gold? I was wondering if they truly are the NAPA "Gold" equivalent or the sub-par NAPA "pro select" or (cringe for the marketing tag) "NASCAR select" quality? If they are the Gold eqivalent, this is a 50% savings, shipping cost included. Almost seems to good to be true.

nippon filters are not the same as denso's,

I ordered 4 from that exact guy a wile ago, had the same "20002 or 20004" text, specifically asked that 20004's be sent, got an email back statign that they did not have any 20004's and could only send nippon 20002's.

the nippon 20002's were nothing at all like the Denso 20002's, the denso 20002 has an outer case like a Denso 20004 but the element is paper with a very strange arrangment that I do not like at all, there are pics of a cut open denso 20002 and my coments about it in the archives

the nippon 20002's are just a standard filters, Ok quality but not a denso and definatly not a Toyota/Denso 20004, I wound up using them for my ARX cycle

Well ....... before I posted I hauled off and bought four of these. I just got an email back from him stating that all he carries now are the 20004. So, I guess I will see what they look like when I get them. Any reason to believe the Nippon 20004 will be any better than the 20002 you recieved??

well since the Nippon 20002's were nothing like the Denso 20002's then I do not think the Nippon 20004's will be like the Denso 20004's,

what exactly whey will be we will have to wait and see, I would supsect that the nippon 20004's will be the same thing asn the nippon 20002's, a standard pleated paper filter.

post up pics when you get them, particlarly from the base plate, a cut open examination of the filter media would be even better.

When I get them I will hack one up for the team.
