Ok mighty mud board..here's the skinny...
85 toyota 4 runner, 300k miles, good compression, idles fine, starts good.
This is a list of what we have done- Checked timing chain/good, swapped distrbutors set timing/no change, MAF sensor swap/no change, checked wiring to injectors/good, checked spark plugs/regapped good, swapped ECU/ no change,
Swapped TPS sensor/ no change, Fuel pump swapped out during fuel tank swap-have not checked fuel pressure.
I am at a loss for what could be wrong with this engine. I have looked on the differnt web sites, and here and still can't figure this out. I have noticed here on mud that this problem does exist with other 22RE owners, please share your wisdom.
Thanks Ray

I'm going to say a bad wire going to the TPS maybe? Check the wiring diagrams and see if you can find where they go (most go to ECU) and check to make sure the wires are good. If the wires check out, then maybe you have a bad ECU??? I don't envy electrical gremlins, good luck!

check your egr system, when my 22r started backfiring that is the first thing a mechanic buddy told me to check. also i will get my manual and look at the trouble shooting section and see what else it says for backfiring and loss of power. you want to make sure every thing is working and that it is not clogged, including in the intake.
