Wiper blade help

I feel like such a dunce. I am trying to change the wiper blade on my FJ45 (1963 build - still has the old style blades) and I can't get the hook on the blade over the slot on the wiper arm. Theres just not enough clearance. Is there a trick to this that I am missing? Thanks.

I’ve had to pull the arm off to allow for enough swing (almost 180-deg) to get the hook into the arm slot.
