Anyone going to be Eastern NC this weekend? I'm taking my sister-in-laws family up there to the Cataloochee Ski Area (East of Asheville) to teach the 4 year old twins to snowboard and they are expecting heavy snow; like 5-8 inches of it Sat morning alone, after 6-10 inches expected tonight, and temps dropping to 1 degree (yes, fareheight!) at night. I'm bringing my full off-road kit - CB, shovel, tow strap. Also bringing my full Rocky Mountain Snowboarding clothes as opposed to my normal Redneck Snow-wear (those who do the sport know what I mean!)

Good timing that I finally sat down this week and figured how all the driving 'systems' in my 8 months old 4runner work and what they actually do - traction control, stability control, auto limited slip diff, down hill assist, vetical bla bla bla. I mainly just want to shut all that crap off, put it in 4-Low, lock the Diff, and have fun.

Atta Boy!!! No cheating alowed

You have no idea how tempting this. If we weren't taking a plasthma cutter to my truck tomorrow Id' be in. It looks like the UC guys are getting something going

Sylva cam, nice. Will bookmark that on my iPhone to see it as I drive up.

C'mon Ted. Put the plasma torch down and go out and have some fun. How often will we get to play in the white stuff vs mud? You can even wear those white pants I saw in on the photos last weekend. :bounce:

here is a live feed in sylva for you guys-

Thanks for the photos smkymntn. We're definitely planning on going. If you'll be around tomorrow, may I request PM'ing me your phone number so I can contact you for some local knowledge of the roads and area if we have trouble with the drive?

I may regret this but I think I need to stick to my original plans, let the cutting begin. Do me a favor though, when you guys go through Sylva waive to the camera :D:D

I WANT SNOW. too bad it wont snow here

I was going to travel up north to play in the snow but figured the snowy covered mountain roads weren't such a smart idea. My LC would be fine but it's the other people I'm unsure about.

Post up some pictures. Happy snowfall! Be safe

We got some snow flurries in roswell around 6pm, other than that, it made for a cold and dreary day.

sweet, more, need more pics. That definitely looks like fun. Next time i hope to have something a little more solid to ride on.

That was part of this lil gem of a multi-pull unstuck. With all the snow tunneling down the road it filled in any ruts and covered any rocks. This one looked about 18'' deep :o (you can see where it had filled to on the clay side-second snow line)
Fun lil ride on an unamed/#d road that ended with a gate and an afternoon of backtracking.

btw 9k warn on an armor'd 80 just isn't quite enough

:cheers:Are the Blueberries ripe up that way yet? Cause if they are I'll get my Pail and meet ya up there! If not I'll just throw another log on the fire and stay inside

We made it up there

Roads kept getting worse as we went North, but never got bad until we hit the ski area in Maggie Valley. Saw about 100 stranded cars along the road from the night before. The road was closed there but after proudly giving the correct answer when asked "Do you have 4WD", they let me pass. I felt so VIP. :grinpimp:

Snowboarding was great too. Overnight a sheet of ice fell. Chevy 4WD parked next to me at hotel couldn't get out. Needed some folks to push it out. They then walked to my 4Runner expecting I would need help to get out, but I locked the diff and pulled out with no problem :D:D That felt fun.

Here is a photo from the ski area looking over thick cloud cover in the valley. Photo doesn't do justice as to how beautiful it was.
