For washing the undercarriage I got one of those tractor sprinklers that travels along the hose. Run the hose under the truck, turn the water up high and let it go. They put out a lot of pressure, painful to put your hands in front of the nozzle, and cover a full circle, front to back. Check it afterwards and do a quick spray nozzle shot of anything that got missed because something was in the way.

Hey guys and gals!

So one of my biggest concerns this year are the salty road conditions here in NYC. Having recently acquired a rust-free 80 that has been garage kept, I am concerned about the salty roads here and what it will do to the truck being that this is it's first ever winter.

I would love to hear some suggestions from the group on how to keep the salt and rust at bay for as long as I can. Anyone live in salt ridden conditions? Take any major preventative measures? Any help is appreciated, just don't want to see my 80 take one step closer to rot city.

Thanks!
DS

FLuidfilm the under body in the fall = no rust. You'll have to do it every fall though.

I've posted pics before. If I feel like it when I get home I will post them again just to shut you up.

This notion that rust is inevitable in the Midwest is bull. Take care of your vehicle and it isn't.

And I just bought an 80 from California. Southwest/West vehicles have their own problems. The leather/interior is shot. All rubber seals are deteriorating. Paint is faded and peeling. It's a pick your poison proposition. But yes, no rust.
