ok i have a cracked windsheild not horrible but bad enough that the DMV wont let me title it till its fixed. so i called around to the window places. most say the winsheild is obsolete and they cant get them. another guy said $180 is there any place or way to do this cheeper? I looked at the plastic ones that the write up is about but i wounder what they cost? size? strength? i thought that stuff just turns to knifes when it breaks?

any help would be great
thanks
mike

If this is for your fj40, there are specialty glass places that wiil cut the glass for you. I had it done on my scout II years ago but I don't remember it costing much. $180 including install might not be a bad price fora custom piece.

re:windsheild a thing or 2

what year of 40 is it for, i have a 76 FJ40. i just had my windsheild replaced today. the shop cut it to fit my opening and its tinted for $184.00 including tax, and has waranty against leaks, i checked local dealer and they could get me one the next day for $95.00 + tax. but i didnt want the hassle of instal. GOOD LUCK!!

Have you tried the dealer? I just replaced mine a week ago. Grand total for the glass was $86.72 or something. My toyota dealer had to get it from out of state but didn't charge me for shipping or anything. Just keep your old seal.

I had a rock chip in front of my face that didn't pass inspection because it "obstructed my view". I went home, flipped the windshield around, putting the chip on the passenger side, and returned to the inspection station to get my paperwork signed off. He chuckled and said something about not many rigs can get away with that as he finished my redtape... Now it only bugs my wife and not me. ;)
