So I have the ARB deluxe bumper, and I'm thinking about getting a winch. The M12000 is supposed to bolt on without any modifications but I don't want to spend $1500 on a winch. The M8000 will fit if I get the spacer from ARB, but do you guys have any suggestions for other winches? I don't want to have to modify the bumper/winch to get it to fit. I'm just having trouble finding a cheap winch that I know I can put on the bumper without too much of a hassle. I'm open to brands other than Warn as long as they will fit without too much modification.

Thanks

Badlands all the way baby!! IMHO the best winch for the money on the planet. Synthetic winch line and remote control and you are good to go. It pulled my fulled loaded 80 up the side of a very step rock ledge with no problem. If you need a winch for daily use as a professional, go with the $1500 winch. If you use it on the occasional weekend outing the badlands is all you need. I keep a cover(ebay) on mine to help keep it in like new condition. It is the same exact winch that other companies are selling for twice the price.

I saw the badlands winch. I have a harbor freight nearby and might get it. Is it a hassle to install it on the ARB?

Engo 10K and love it, already used to pull out my buried in mud 80 once. Friend has the same and blew the brake in it and Engo sent out a new one no question asked. I think I paid right around $423 for mine with synthetic line and fairlead.

You will just need to put about 1/2-3/4" spacers between the back of the bumper and the feet of the winch and clock the end of the winch to allow access to engage/disengage. Clocking is simple and takes only a few minutes. The winch has worked well for me.

Thans for the recommendations guys. I think I'm going to go with the badlands since it's pretty popular and I can get it nearby.

Thanks for the coupons! I'm gonna have a field day next week! And I'll get the controller.

I installed a Badlands winch last summer, here's how it went...

I removed the bumper and was thinking how and where I was going to locate the control box.
I did not like the recommended location above the drum and also did not want to mount it vertically on the grill or locate it under the hood; where the only room is driver’s side and on a 3fe would require very long battery to winch cables. Not to mention the hot part of the engine bay
I thought about tucking it into the right wing inside the ARB. This would require me to fabricate a bracket to mount the control box, I don’t do fabrication very good, so I was concerned about the way it would turn out. My brother in-law was visiting and was in the garage when I was fiddling with the whole set up and saw what I wanted to accomplish. He went to his truck and brought me a scrap piece of stainless sheet metal. This would be perfect, a bend here a cut there, 5 holes drilled and I had my mount. All I needed to do was extend one ground cable from the control box to the winch.

Thanks for the suggestion Frank. I've got some scrap metal laying around so I'll probably do something similar.

I bought my superwinch Talon 12.5k with synthetic line for $890 on Amazon, and mounted it on my 96 fj80 with little modification by building a small bracket and purchase the relocation kit

easy Modification with two pieces of 1/4 steel on each side as spacers..... if you decide to go this way and need some pictures, just let me know.
