I'm just curious, I've never put a cover on a winch but since I mounted one in the rear of my 60, a cover is going to have to be made. I have a compressor winch up front and am going to fab up a canvas cover.
Has anyone actually had a winch failure essentially due to weathering and neglect?
What would you all consider to be essential maintenance points for a winch?

I'd say those are the reasons all winches eventually fail. Weathering and neglect.

Usually its the solenoids so if you can relocate them under the hood it'll help a lot.

Other than that its just grease.
