Thanks for the photos. I prefer the look and the strength of your bumper over what I've seen on the market but don't have the skills for anything like that and I'm guessing to have a bumper like that built would be outta my cost range.
thanks, the winch plate and everything under it to frame and front frame brace and the up rights above the bumper are all 1/4 inch steel, the (wings) and sides are 3/16s, the loops were chosen for out side diameter, so big center bar, smaller grill bars and smaller running light protector bars.
the bars are crazy thick, do to choosing the look vs thickness, they are 1/4 inch thick tube.
it is what twisted customs had in stock that looked right.
each bumper took almost a whole roll of welding wire at .035 inch flux core. 3 or 4 grinding disks and 4 or 5 sand paper wheels.
the first one took about 5 or 6 days, mostly sitting trying to figure out what I wanted to do.
the second one took 2 or three days.
materials ohh a guess about 400.00 each...
now labor.
we will go with the second one, as I had a plan.. but no jig or real template. I would guess, 30 hours. from the start of pulling things off to the finished bumper.
so shop rate... gads. 65 an hour 1950.00 plus 400.00 in materials. gads... 2350.00.. ouch I never figured that up before. heck we only paid 1500 for her truck before the mods started.
but I enjoy doing that stuff.. nice to build your own junk.
here are a few highlights.
at the same time on her truck, I did the frame bracing for hydro assist and cross over steering. how to drill the box, mount the ram... rock sliders are a must if you want to be able to close your doors. I would do rock sliders before anything else. they are awsome.
here you can kinda see how they are mounted. use 3/16 square steel. my wifes are 3/16, mine are 1/8 and there is a huge difference, hers are better.
Why... lol
the other use,, she pivoted her truck on the slider because she didn't want to get that tippy
if you want pictures of the cross over steering braces and hydro assist pictures let me know.. they have worked great.
we are using sky manufacturing cross over. so information may not apply to others.
If you are a newbie to all this I have done bed bobbs, lifts tires, broken alot of stuff so I have learned what works and what will not work, how to save money in the long run by spending just a bit more at the start.
welcome to the never ending expensive hobby of 4 wheeling. Sorry man to late, you just can't go back now.
oh PS.
the most important part of having fun 4 wheeling. your wheeler can not be the only thing to get you to and from work.
take a deep breath now if your wheeler is your only car. get a second car just for work. you will break, and always at the worst time.
that is don't try to go hard core with your going to work car.
pss. my wifes truck is the 4th toy I have built. I applied everything that I have learned about toyota's to her truck. it is better then mine, and at about 1/3 the cost. if you want to hear the story of the build we can do it here or start a new thread. buying good stuff the first time will save you money.
buying the right stuff for what you want to do will save you even more money.
this is an awsome forum for learning and asking questions.
I have done all this in a gravel drive way, not a garage. I am sure that a few can chime in here that this is the truth. that and my wifes truck was built pretty fast with a limited budget.
but that is a whole different story.
