I decided to fabricate a winch bumper for my 2018 4Runner SR5. The main structure is 3/16”, 1/4”, and 5/16” steel. The outer skin is .120” steel. Bare metal was treated with etching primer and covered with Raptor coat bed liner. Holes are for access to winch controls and a lite duty hitch receiver for parking small overland trailer. Mounted inside is a Smittybilt X20 winch with synthetic rope.

That does look nice. Do you have dimensions/plans somewhere?

I haven't seen any winch bumper/mount like this before. May be there is one like it out there for sale by different brand. You should consider selling this to your fellow mudders. I for one would be interested to get one and put Warner winch on it 😉

Looks like a great fabricating job , I just picked up a 2022 TRD pro figuring what direction I am going with this 4runner .
Sorry took so long to reply. There are a lot of good bumpers out there for the 4Runner. I made mine for the fun of fabricating. And it only cost me about $100 in materials vs. the $800 plus cost of a manufactured bumper.

Thanks, there are a half dozen or so bumpers like this for sale from manufacturers like CBI, Warn, Westin and C4 ranging from $800 to $1500 which are very good products. It took me about 4 weeks to measure, make templates, cut steel and weld. It was a personal challenge to see if I could do it. I don’t have a stream lined process in place for mass production nor am I ready to take on liability for a product people would attach to their vehicle. I have yet to use my winch in a real recovery, I have only tested it.

You do nice fab work. Is that bumper attached with 4 bolts only?

It is attached with the 8 factory bolts on the frame end flanges where the crash structure used to attach. Plus I also attached with 2 additional bolts to the frame area below radiator support where there was a factory threaded hole.
