I've sourced a company that makes the previously discontinued outback tx1 wheels. The size they offer in a 15 in wheel is 15x7 with 96mm (3.78 in) backspacing. Will this fit on an 85 solid axle yota without rubbing issues or spacers?

not sure my stock steel wheels on my 1985 toyota 4runner are 15/6 with backspace of 3 3/8 inch I have read somewhere that the 86 and up 4runners have wheels with a backspace of more than 4inches and it will rub on the front somewhere on the 84 and 85 solid axle, so im not sure if the 3 7/8 will rub its a little further in than 3 3/8

The alloys that came on the 86 and later trucks is 4 3/4" which as you said it too much because it rubs on the steering components. This is almost an inch less so I'm wondering if its enough.

Should be OK in the rear. If they rub in the front, you could do the swap to IFS wheel hubs, which push the WMS out about an inch or so. Requires a special spacer to bolt the rotors back up though.

Curious where you found the wheels?
