I am thinking about getting a later style FJ55 dashboard and putting it in my 72' Pig. My dash has been cut by the PO for a radio and the pad is trashed. If I have a later model dash, I can buy the reproduction pad and have a clean dash.

It seems like they should swap...........anyone know where I can get one?

the earlier dashes have a center section that is cut out, the later styles don't have this center section, are you talking about swapping out the whole dash section (metal) and putting a new one in? I am going through this now and trying to use one of the later dash caps and making it fit the existing fj55 dash, not sure how it will come out as I will need to trim the dash a bit and paint the part the dash doesn't cover.

Yep, I want to put a later model dash in.

How does the dashcap fit your rig? Can it be made to look nice? I was planning in re-painting the dash anyway.

I have in my possesion, a stock 1970 dash and a dash cap for a later model 72+ dash. I put the dashcap up to the dash on my 1970 fj55 and although it will fit, the center section of the later dash covers the area where the 1970 dash has the landcruiser emblem and the rear window switch. So, to answer your question, yes, i believe it will fit but in my opinion it will look funky as the landcruiser emblem and switch will not be able to fit. I plan to trim the later model dash cap to fit the early model dash I have and repaint the non covered areas of the center section of the early dash with some plastic paint I found. I plan to do a writeup on it. Not sure how it will come out but I will probably run it for awhile and they eventually when the rebuild is completely cherry, send the dash out to be professionaly resotred to the tune of $450 plus shipping.
