Will 91 4Runner 4x4 Windshield Fit 92 2wd Reg Cab PU?
Looking at a 91 4runner 4x4 for parts...REALLY need to know if these work, but can't Google it for crap.

Any other interesting stuff I can use? Hood/Fenders/interior/exhaust?

The 4runner is a 3.0 that runs and sounds good, but definitely needs HGs replaced. I was thinking I'd pull that and do the HGs and throw it in another runner (lots of them around with blown 3.0s) or even a pickup if I get lucky. My PU is a 22re, so not much help under the hood. I need a windshield, though, and being able to use this one would make it a no-brainer. I need to know by the crack of RIGHT FREAKING NOW!

Thanks,

The windshield should work, but it's really hard to get it out without breaking it. Hope you have the proper sealant cutting tool. A new windshield is cheaper than you'd think, IMO it's not worth the hassle, especially since it will probably be pitted and scratched. I paid $179 to have mine installed a few weeks ago, the guy did a great job, all the right tools and sealants, and he re-installed all that awful trim.

Hood should be the same, fenders no. Interior is all mostly the same (dash), as long as the same color. Exhaust doubtful.

I would never rebuild a 3.0 on speculation. Wait for a good candidate or a sucker to pay for it. Otherwise you'll never get your money back.

Thanks for your response, KLF...it's been a long time.

I was planning on using a wire guitar string, like a garrotte, as specified in the FSM. I agree this could turn into a mess.

The $179, did that include glass (with no insurance claim)? If so, that's pretty good. Chain?

Ima freaking kill the lawn kid...he keeps dusting my ride with pebbles! This makes two windows in as many months.

Oh, and I hear you on the 3.0, except it won't take long to find a candidate around here; there will be five 4Runners within the next month on CL with no rust and blown 3.slows.

Thanks.

I tried all the wire methods when I pulled the windshield out of my truck (music wire, MIG wire, etc), didn't work. The wire just kept breaking. Even though I was wearing heavy gloves, I came close to cutting my hand really badly with the wire from pulling really hard. That sealant stuff is TOUGH. Plus, my entire dash was out, you'll never get access to the bottom edge with the dash still in the way. I didn't care if it came out whole, so I ended up putting a bunch of contact paper on it, attacked with the sawzall. Made a big mess, but it worked. Then I used the scraper blade in a multi-tool to scrape the rest of it out.

What you need is something like this:

Still, it's just not worth it.

$179 included the glass plus a "clip kit" for the trim, but the old windshield was already out. It was a local place (Granite State Glass), they were really great when I made the appointment, knew it wasn't a typical newer car, so they sent their installer with the most experience. He had done many trucks of this era, so he knew exactly how to get all the stupid clips properly installed so the trim stays put. It's a Chinese windshield, tinted on top, but he says that all windshields come from there now.

My cab was just back from the paint shop, so it was all nice and fresh, no rust. You may be shocked to find rust under your sealant, so my suggestion is (if you can) pull the old windshield out a day or 2 ahead, so you have time to clean up, prime, and paint over old rust.
