Howdy all, new to the forum but a long time lurker. We are a building or first Land Cruiser, a 1997 Collector’s Edition that will be my wife’s daily driver. She has named her Black Betty. We purchased the truck about two months ago and quickly went through the ARB catalog. We have gotten into the overland style of off road and travel. So this is the style of build her truck will be geared towards. After searching the net for a while and looking at many 100 series we stumbled across a very nice 80 on craigslist in Warrenton VA, a short drive later and we were coming home with the 80. The truck had about 8 years of maintenance receipts that where mostly from the local Toyota dealer. There is very minimal rust on it for a east coast truck which surprised me!
Shortly after getting the truck and having Ryan from on the road again mobile mechanic (http://www.otramm.com/) give it a clean bill of health so that my wife could meet me at Mid Atlantic Overland Festival (MAOF). She ended up winning a Quadratec Q9500is winch during the raffle there. With our busy schedules it’s been hard finding time to build out the truck. In the few months we have had it we have managed to put 5 of the new style BFG AT’s on it, ARB outback drawer, ARB side steeps, ARB front Bumper and mounted the winch. The parts sitting in the garage waiting to be installed is the 2.5 heavy OME lift, ARB rear bumper with spare tire carrier and back up light and we still need to install the front fender brush bars.
Future plans are to get a set of TRD Gray Off-Road Wheels 16" (PTR18-35090-GR). Replace/remove the wooden trim inside, fix the power passenger’s seat and preserve the underside of the rig and remove any surface rust.
The other Toyotas in our current stable is our commuter car a 2004 Toyota Solara and a 2013 Toyota Tacoma. Below is the build link for the Tacoma.
