no need to cut a hole- we used a clothespin to hold the fan housing to one of the uprights on the tent

cheap fan might work just as well as the spendy one. Maybe.
My focus in buying the one we bought was that it is mostly plastic vs. metal--- no rust issues. Also it's quiet. Very quiet. And low power draw as I knew we would be running it for several nights in a row without running the vehicle and didn't want to accidentally run down the battery.
If there is a less expensive version that works ... no reason to spend the extra $ !
