Woke up this morning and was reading the news when I saw this. Whoever decided to stop by Ridgecrest picked a bad time! I hope everything is okay there. We felt it pretty good in Las Vegas.

My wife and kids went to the Sequoia National forest and were standing on a small bridge overlooking a river, I told my wife “Wow the water is powerful enough to move this bridge a little!” Luckily it wasn’t centered closer to us but it was probably one of the worst places we could stand!
Last nights shoot us pretty good in Los Angeles and we are 170 miles from Ridgecrest.

Luckily there are only minor injuries reported at this point.

I heard some guys pool is empty now from all the water being thrown out of it. Crazy.

I was in China and was in a 6.1. Old 9 story building, all the residents came down the stairs yelling. I stayed. Got home on the 4th. We left the house during the 7.1, seemed to last forever.

It's the ones that last longer than 10 seconds that freak me out.

If by vacation you mean working for 48 straight hours for the news, that was me! After the 7.1 quake, i resorted to sleeping in my land cruiser one night in an open field! I didn’t want the big one to drop a building or tree on me! Aftershocks were every couple of minutes and shook out hotel. TLC for the win!

That's amazing!! I'd totally go sleep in a field in the LC as well. I don't know if it was you or someone else but they made a post a while ago about how their 200 is kitted out for news work. Might have been in Australia actually since they're out in the 'bush' for so long.

Were you there during the quake the day prior? nice rock warriors btw!

270k! That's impressive, any major issues so far?

I bet you weren't expecting that 7.1 hah!

Lets just say its not free to keep it going. All original drivetrain. Meticulous maintenance. R/R water pump, PS pump, Radiator, hoses, rack and pinion, upper and lower control arms, intake manifold red sludge leak thing, spark plugs. To note, this vehicle HAS NEVER let me down, most things were replaced as a precaution due to small indicators that it might fail in the future. For instance, rack and pinion/lower control arms needed replacement bushings etc, but the each replacement bushing cost more than the unit was brand new from toyota. Saw leaks on top of radiator and had replaced. I owe this vehicles worthiness to Mudrak Custom Cruisers in Sonoma and Central Automotive in Walnut Creek.

That's a pretty good list. Sorry to hear about the intake manifold leak. I heard of those happening in some of the Tundras as well.

I had the Cruiser up on jack stands. Thankfully I wasn’t under it. It was good little roller.
I fared better than this poor soul.

Exactly the reason for overkill on jack stands. I use these 22 ton beasts. Each weighs 41 pounds. The Pin is 1" diameter. Beats cinder blocks and a Hi Lift any day.

I was thinking about you when I read this story! So sad.

I think a strong enough earthquake will still knock a truck right off jackstands like those. I'm old school and whatever wheel I just removed I slide under the truck right next to me as a fail safe...on top of jackstands and a sturdy jack.

Agreed. Wheels always under the frame as a fail safe. I also have a floor jack just under if it's not in use.
I've been looking at the QuickJack.
