This 1985 FJ60 is an excellent, rust free, original vehicle. Sold new in California, it remained there with its original owner until early 2023 at 187k miles. Later that year it changed hands again, this time to its current owner in NW Montana. Since then it has accumulated less than 3000 miles and is ready for a new home.

The body is in exceptional condition for its age, with no significant rust anywhere and no evidence of prior bodywork. There are a couple of small paint chips with surface rust and a small spot of bubbled paint on the rear tailgate. The roof shows normal fading from living in a sunny climate and the hood was repainted at some point, presumably for the same reason. There are a few small dents and scuffs consistent with 40 years of light use, notably on the RH rear corner below the tail light. The undercarriage is incredibly dry, with no rust in the floors, rockers or frame members.

The engine starts well, runs great and has good power for a 2F. Cold starts require a few pumps of the accelerator along with the choke, when warm it fires off almost immediately. A new fuel pump was installed recently and solved an idle issue, the engine now returns to a nice idle when coming off throttle. There is a small leak in the exhaust but otherwise the engine sounds healthy. Apart from a bit of “custom” wiring for the underhood fan, done by a previous owner, the engine bay is completely stock. The transmission shifts well and feels tight, clutch grabs nicely. The transfer case shifts smoothly in and out of 4WD and low range. Steering is a bit loose, the relay rod ends could use a rebuild or replacement. Springs appear to be original and are beginning to sag slightly but are totally serviceable as-is. Shocks are older but in good condition. Shackle bushings are showing their age all around. Tires are nearly new BF Goodrich KO2’s that were installed around two years and 3000 miles ago. The knuckles, while somewhat grimy, show no signs of leaking and there is no significant play in the bearings.

On the inside this Cruiser shows remarkably little wear for the mileage. The seats are all intact, including the driver’s seat bolster. The seat foam is still supportive (for FJ60 seats, anyway!) and doesn’t show signs of breaking down. There is some wear on the cargo area carpet, but overall the original carpets are quite good. A nearly new set of fitted carpet floor mats freshen up the interior. The dash has one hole at the base of the gauge cluster but is otherwise in excellent shape. The headliner is clean and has no tears or holes. All gauges and instruments work as they should, including the AC which has been converted to R134a and was recently serviced. The radio has been upgraded to a Continental head unit with bluetooth connectivity. The choke cable has been moved from its place in the dash and replaced by a custom switch and timer for the underhood fan; the cable is still fully functional and is tucked up above the pedals.

Overall this FJ60 is a great example of an unmodified, original vehicle. As it sits it is completely roadworthy, with a few minor maintenance items would perform quite nicely as a daily driver making memories with its next owner.

Asking $25,000 or reasonable offer.

Here is a folder with additional hi-res photos, I'm happy to answer any questions or provide any specific photos.

Here is a short video of a start and test drive:

Here is an additional cold start at 15-20ºF after sitting for a few days:

There are a couple of exhaust leaks, one on an EGR pipe connection on the lower LH side of the engine, and one from the rust holes in the muffler.

Front and rear crank seals are weeping some oil, they leave a few spots on the floor after being parked for a few days.

According to some maintenance receipts the carburetor is due for a rebuild and the spark plugs are nearing the end of their life.

Bump, still available, open to reasonable offers! After sitting all winter the idle issue came back, the idle control solenoid was replaced and some cleaner put in the fuel. The owner has been driving the Cruiser for the past week and says it is running better than ever. A new air intake hose from City Racer has replaced the disintegrating original unit.
