Hi Jeff. Please see Post#4 with tentative plan. @Antarctican can confirm if this is a go. Glad that you're joining us 👍

OK All - There's a post on FaceDiary regarding the Whipsaw trip, and here's the link.
Seeing as I prefer Mud, info will be updated here first.
Plan is still per Post #4.
Campsite Friday night at Copper Creek FSR turnoff. Drive past the campsite and over bridge. I think the road down to the river is on the right just before the hairpin left turn. Break camp fairly early to rendezvous at the south end of Whipsaw at the 'corral' staging area at 9:30-10am. Will aim to depart there at 10:30.
Also, we should monitor forest fire situation over the next week though, since it's become tinder-dry with the extreme heat this past week. Perhaps a final decision next Wed July 7. There is now a campfire ban throughout BC, including fire pits, afaik.

As of today, we are two (daughters and dog staying home).

Fingers crossed that the fire situation does not get worse, I think it is smart to make final decision later in the week if it is safe to go.

That would be great Martin! We'll confirm on Wed that it's a go - watching the forest fire hazard stats on Wildfire BC. If it's Extreme, we'll get a consensus on Mud and FB.

I’m coming from the North (Kelowna) so I will meet the group at the Whipsaw FSR trailhead at 9:30 Sat. morning as per post #24

Here are a few links for WildfireBC website to monitor fire conditions prior to trip...

Here are Google Earth kmz files for Whipsaw, and Placer Lake rec site. and traverse...

(Placer might be an option if fire risk at Whipsaw is deemed too high)

As of tonight the Wildfire Danger rating at Lodestone and Ashnola is level 3 "moderate danger" which is probably as low as it gets unless it's summer monsoon season. Still means we need to be careful and no fires of any sort. We are going to be at Copper Creek on Friday night (note that we'll be camping a bit further up the road along the river, not at the rec site by the bridge). PM me for my phone number. We'll meet on Sat morning at Whipsaw Trail start between 9:30-10, with departure at 10:30. Channel 146.460. Looking forward to this weekend and catching up and meeting some new folks. Safe travels and cheers.
Also, please post below that you're joining and where you plan to meet so we don't leave anyone behind at the start!
I'm cross posting on FB.

How big is the camp site past the bridge down by the River?

I don't know. On last year's Gary Telford Memorial Run some of the crew camped there. We didn't know about it and the rec site was full of camping trailers so we stayed further east up a FSR. I'll PM someone to ask.

Unable to make this one, but will be at the CC get together on the following Thursday. See ya'll there and look forward to pics and stories.

Pete, sent you a PM.

I will be up on Friday and meet at the river. I will probably head out from the lower mainland around 10am or so. See everyone up there!

As your wrecked director it is time to start planning Whipsaw 2021. Early July, maybe the weekend of the 10th, higher chance of cooler temps but more flowers. Covid restriction rules taken into consideration of course.
So Pete, will our wrecked director be joining the trip? 😁
