Thought I'd change the PHH and heater control valve, but may as well swap the fan clutch, and while I'm doing that change water pump and the belts and I guess I should change the hoses that connect to the heater valve and since I'm doing that maybe just go ahead and swap the radiator and plugs and wires...and and and...

PHH is pesky indeed....

That looked nasty. I still have to replace the hoses to my rear heater. Want to do them in silicone but keep forgetting to order some.

might want to consider sealing up all the front engine leaking points if you have not done so already.....

You're killing me Guppie! ;) Was planning on the oil pump cover and dizzy O ring. My crank bolt seal isn't leaking. I think I'm just gonna leave that alone...might be a bit beyond my current capabilities.

I was in the same boat. Ordered a blue hub, then read this thread and talked to a couple senior members. Early 1FZ Fan Clutch (Black/Blue Hub)

Sold the blue hub and modded the black...sounds like the black hub is the way to go IMO.

I did the same, the guy I bought mine from had it, just never put in, but after reading some threads the stock is the way to go,.
Thanks for the info!!!!

So doing my fan clutch, and my oil is pretty dark lookin. It is sealed and factory toyota, but really don't know how old it is. It came with a blue fan clutch that the PO gave me. Gonna use it and see, can always order new 10k if this doesn't work.

Dang...didn't know Toyota sold silicon oil. I just got mine at the local hobby shop.

Yeah, it was in the box with the blue fan, so figure I would use it, 18mL tubes, but it will have to wait now, stripped last screw head in the black hub, going to Ace for an extractor, and gone see if I can find torx head replacement screws

Irwin extractor worked like a charm!!!
It is apart and draining til tomorrow.
Noticed the oil is brownish/orange color, see how much I get out. Everything I read says to fill with ~45mL,,,,how much did you have to put in yours @ewillis???

I probably got 35ml out and put 45ml in. With the new belts and water pump in...it idles quietly!

Got mine all buttoned up. Put about 45mL back in. Reinstalled and also put new front brake pads on it, and did the distributor o-ring. On start up fan is noticeably louder, once it kicks down though all is quiet.
Checked for leaks from all my past PM and all looks good.
Last thing to do is oil pans. Since I now have a screw extractor I could take it back down to do the oil pump cover gasket, but don't really feel like it. Think I can live with one small drip every once and a while.
I have noticed most screws in this rig are soft, and strip out very easily, so as I replace things I take them to Ace and find replacement hardware. Kind of a pain, but I figure will save headaches down the road.
