4 speed will hold up just fine unless you do something really silly..

Thanks Mace... the first thing that came to mind was driving the FJ40 in a full clown costume.. but that is not the silly your talking about! ;)

I agree with Mace.... It will hold up fine, when I rebuild my t-case, (which is a one piece) Iam going to put one of Georg' tcase savers.

It took a few drives to get used to the power and how responsive the DBW is, but now it a pleasure to drive.

Ok, this 5.3 is going in front of a Toyota FJ60 4 speed with the help of an old AA belhousing.

If I use a 2005 Chevy manual transmission flywheel (stock LS application), can I still use the Checker six cylinder clutch kit (short throw pressure plate)?

What throw out bearing and pilot bushing do I need?

Call advance adapters. They what use their lit...

yep you can use the AA bellhousing the 5.3 bolt pattern is the same but there is one bolt hole that isn't tapped on the gen 3 blocks, an LS flywheel will bolt straight up to the crank, personally I'd stay clear of trying to use the 6 cylinder clutch it probably wouldn't be up to holding all the extra HP and torque I'd be investing in a good performance clutch that will clamp up tight and not slip and spin up, as above call Advanced Adaptors they probably have a kit or component's you can buy to fit it all together

Advance flywheel and clutch is over $600 plus shipping.

Fly wheel and clutch from autozone, with their 20% off and free shipping offers is $172 to my door.

Good luck with the 5.3 swap. I just finished putting a 4.8 with an H42 in mine. Feels like enough power for now. Maybe down the road I'll do a newer motor with the variable timing and the displacement on demand.

I voted a little late, good luck with the 5.3 great motor...

I voted 4.8 because they are dirt cheep at the wrecking yard, Saw one for 500$ with the harness and computer the other day. Yards cant seem to give them away everyone wants the 5.3 or 6.0

I paid $550 for mine with computer and a butchered harness. I've been shocked to find what people are asking for a stock harness.

Look arround, you can also use the car harness, camaro firebird. 150-200 is about what they go for out here.

I ordered the autozone parts. ....same price as Rockauto with shipping, but AZ is closer if it needs to be warrantied. AA would be $702 shipped.

The clutch used on the Checker is a heavy duty clutch. When you cross reference the part number for applications on the RockAuto site...that clutch was used on a bunch of GM trucks and cars in the 60's and 70's.

LS1Tech.com says bolt holes in pressure plate need to be opened up a tad to clear the 10mm bolts GM uses on late models otherwise bolt pattern is the same.

I did the same as you. 5.3 from my fried a salvage yard dbw and a 9 out of 10 paid $600 for it. Went to Howell in Michigan for the electronics and have a center force clutch. I love the entire set-up I would do anything differently.

Gas mileage, meh, if i as concerned about that I'd be in a Prius. Good luck with it.

I have a 5.7L LS1 in my 40 and I run the 60 series 5 speed. Pus out 200kW at the wheels and I run 35's on it. It's easy to drive off road and when you neeed the extra bit it is there and has a limiter for when you get a bit too excited.

Does 100kmph (62mph) at around 2200.

I tried the route of opening up the bolt holes on the pressure plate, but it didn't look centered on the flywheel after that. Ended up going the AA route since I didn't want to have to pull the motor out right away. AA might be expensive but it worked great, and now I have a part number to cross reference for a cheaper replacement clutch, pretty sure it's different than the checker clutch, but a low finger height design. I'm sure you'll figure it out.

For the harness I ended up unpinning every wire from the computer so I could move the PCM inside the firewall on the passenger side. The pins are available online to redo the harness and if you desmog the motor and remove all the auto transmission harness you end up with plenty of the stock colored wiring to extend the wires that end up being too short. All the pin outs and wire color codes are on LT1swap.com he also did my PCM reprogramming for $75. Once you get into it the LS harness isn't that bad.

Finally got an exhaust on mine today and the 4.8 with 4-speed is a great driving combo. Sounds awesome and very smooth. You'll dig it!

x2 on not opening up the pressure plate holes, rotating the pressure plate slightly and tapping new holes in the flywheel would give you a better result if you've got someone with a lathe or jig that can get them all dialled in and centred properly

we did pretty much the same with the loom and ecm with my engine we didn't use lt1swap.com but came across a guy on ebay that does ecm's, it turned out he knew a lot more about my engine and what model and year it was than we did and it also worked out cheaper for him to supply a second hand ecm and flash it up to suit my engine and take out all the settings, VATs etc we weren't using, he did the whole lot for $100 USD plus freight which was cheaper than what it would have cost to send him my ecm from down here and his price was a lot cheaper than the local estimates of $600-700 USD to have my ecm re-flashed in NZ, my engine fired straight up on the ecm he supplied me and the only code it throws is no engine light because we never hooked up an engine light

My autozone clutch and flywheel showed up. Now I guess I need to work on finding a decent way to mount a reluctor ring for a vss

Jags that run, they sell a VSS that screws into the transfer case speedometer outlet. The stock speedo cable can screw into it. I had to re-clock my output since that combo is a bit long, but works great.

4PAC was what I used. I also used a steam vent adapter from them that had 1-1\4" on one side and 1-1\2" on the other side. Kept my FJ40 radiator and used two different Napa flex hoses for the upper radiator hose. You could also get a custom radiator from Speedwaymotors.com that has both inlet and outlet on the pax side.
