Hard to say. Here in the USA, no diesel engines were offered by Toyota. No real world experience with them.
The engines you are referring to are the 2KD and 1KD respectively.
They are quite similar with the 2KD being considered a bit more of a workhorse and the 1KD having more power.
Just be sure to check out the injector seals for both of them if you buy an older one (over 10 yrs old)
