Which ford alt. is used ???

Trying to build a onboard welder . What year make and model vehical will I find the nessairy alt. on.

It needs to externally regulated.

I'd look for an old 100 amp (large case) 1G from a Ford.

You can find them on mid to late 70's Ford trucks and vans with a big block (good luck).

It can be internally regulated as well, specifically the 3G is 130a, can get up to about 160-170a when load demands, can be purchased new for around $150, and despite the fact that it's considered internally regulated, the regulator is affixed on the back side of the unit and very easy to access and modify if you choose to hot-wire it. Be careful with the full-field voltage....it's considered heart-stopping an can be dangerous if not handled correctly.
